Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 14, 2009 4:00 pm Hi, New to this forum and have learnt so much already! Only found it today!! Anyhow........ DH & I are looking at building on a rural block (about 100ac which we haven't brought yet) and are tossing around housing ideas. Not sure wether we should go the transportable home or project home. Has anyone had any experience in buying a transportable home? Know anyone who lives in one?? Any info would be great. Thanks Tina Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 3May 14, 2009 8:09 pm Hi! Welcome to the process, I hope there's more fun in it than stress for you My Mum bought a transportable about 7 years ago and Raves about it. She simply couldn't be happier. Went through an SA only builder with excellent specs. What are you particular concerns? Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 4May 15, 2009 8:39 am The only thing you may have to take into consideration is if you are borrowing money from a Bank. Many financial institutions will not lend money for a transportable home (unless you have equity in other property - ie another home or even the land if you own it outright). Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 5May 15, 2009 8:56 am Thanks for the replies. Yes we will have an equity based loan (own one home that is currently rented), but that is something will have to check up on. Going to look at 100 ac tomorrow that looks like it could be the place for us. There isn't as much difference in price as I thought there might be between t'port and project. After reading a few topics on here (particularly about project homes) I realise that we are on the right track with our budgeting (I hope ). Trying to allow 50% extra on top of base price, interested to here if anyone had the same with t'port homes. My biggest concern is that I don't want it to 'look' or 'feel' like a transportable home. Maybe I just need to go see a few display ones, don't want it to be like a caravan park. We are in NSW, so if anyone has any info about companies, please let me know. Thanks everyone Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 6May 15, 2009 9:01 am Mareetina - there is a place down at Lisarow on the Central Coast that had a really good looking website and apparently have a big display village as well. They were quite friendly on the phone too. We were looking at a transportable to use on our business site as an office and I googled relocatable buildings. Sorry for the life of me I can't remember their actual business name or site. They did seem quite flexible with their designs. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 7May 15, 2009 7:46 pm Hi Mareetina, Our next home will possibly be a prefab. (We're still in the midst of the first being built.. We are seriously considering prefab/kit homes because of its speedy timeline! And if you really wanted to you could transport your home i.e. take it a long with you My dad has been doing lots of research on prefab and well I think he has pretty much won me over particularly because our current builder has taken longer than usual to actually get a move on things Re: Transportable or Prefab homes 8May 15, 2009 8:02 pm ring these guys and see if they can help http://www.demountables.com.au/ theyre in deniliquin, i know them personally, never done business with them but i would have no qualms about doing so. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74717 I would never build with Fowler homes.
