Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 11, 2009 3:50 pm We recently went to our lot and found all our leftover bricks from the builder had been taken away. I really wanted a letter box or spares just in case. I emailed my useless CLO regarding this issue and this was her reply The spare bricks are Homebuyers property and while we try to keep them on site if they are needed on another site they will be taken away. You have only paid for the bricks used in the house. I'd like to know is it just HBC or do other builders take the leftover bricks away. Any feedback would be great. If there's leftover bricks, you would only own them if the contract specifies that you've paid for X number of bricks but only Y were needed for building. It works the other way too - if they need more bricks to build the house (such as if some were stolen) then they have to pay for the extra bricks. Some are a little more understanding and will leave some bricks for the owner, but this depends on the Site Supervisor. Re: What do you think - The Left over bricks.. 4May 11, 2009 4:05 pm Yeah unfortunately bricks are the builders property in most cases they give you permission to keep them because they won't cart away the excess but if they need them they will keep them Re: What do you think - The Left over bricks.. 5May 11, 2009 4:07 pm I have a friend that built a letterbox with leftover bricks he had, however he was 9 bricks short so he went to the brick manufacturer on three seperate days and got 3 lots of samples (3 in each sample box), they weren't the best quality bricks but it did the job. Energy efficient custom built house - Moving In 3 Weeks Re: What do you think - The Left over bricks.. 6May 11, 2009 4:09 pm We got left almost an entire intact pallet of paver bricks and half of another all up. They nicely said we could do more paving with them ourselves. And carpet too, some really big pieces and long usable strips, I had a big piece edged for the games room and some mats for in front of the doors, great to have it blending in. Re: What do you think - The Left over bricks.. 7May 11, 2009 4:13 pm We have four stacks of bricks (no complete pallets) that are left over. I've spoken to the SS about them and we'll be moving them away "for storage" so that they are not removed during site clean. Re: What do you think - The Left over bricks.. 8May 11, 2009 4:17 pm I think a good builder would ask you if you want any excess material (assuming it's only worth a few hundred dollars). It could mean a lot to you, but, after considerign transport or disposal costs, is probably worth virtually zero to the builder. Sounds like a good way for considerate builders to delight their customers. Ive spoken to few friends/family who are building too and they all get to keep their leftover bricks so i didnt know what to think. I wish i had taken some before site clean. Could any of these be asbestos? Best to leave as it is or clean up? Thank you for your thoughts 0 8070 No. It's not original.
