Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 10, 2009 11:30 pm It's the only name that I could come up with for this thread because our house doesn't have a name, it started life as a custom home. Our house story and drama is well documented on this forum so not going to repeat it here.
Will however say our house was left a lock-up stage by previous builder in August 2008, new builder was appointed in late 2008 and work re-commenced in Jan 2009. Unfortunately work was stopped again due to a big issue with plaster (all plaster had to come down) so worked was held up for a few more weeks. Anyway new builders got that all sorted for us and work started again with a vengenance. So here we are in May and just a few weeks away from handover. So finally thought it was about time I put up some pics. DH thought I should wait until next week after clean up but the thing is with so much work being done it probably would be another week before I could take pics again, so I didn't think anyone would mind looking past the dust. So here are a few pics of our house inside. Up until about a month ago I was really ambivalent about the house because of what we had been through, but with so much progress and it really looking like a house I am so excited again and can't wait to move in. Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 4May 11, 2009 6:57 am wonderful to finally see you so close to getting in to your gorgeous new house photogirl. The house looks absolutely stunning, love the laundry and kitchen, and front door, and everything. Thanks for the photos which I have been waiting patiently for. Best of luck to you and Justin for the big move and may you enjoy every moment in your perfect new home, you have worked hard for it and truly deserve it! oh and more pics would be great "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. There's so many horror stories on this forum, but very few of us can understand what you and the others caught up in this whole saga have been through! I'm so, so happy that you will finally have a home! And finally, finally someone else has my front door!!!! Yay!!!! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Hopefully everything is going quick and smooth, and you can move in soon Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 9May 11, 2009 9:54 am Thankyou everyone, I know it's very exciting to be finally thinking about moving in. Donuts, absolutely there will be more photos and you have been very patient (and very supportive about our situation, that also extends to other Homeoners too so thankyou) because I have been very slow with the pics. I think they are doing a clean up today so that will be good. Looking forward to showers, appliances, splashback and especially the timber floating floors going in (merbau - more dark things). So more pics soon. Joles, I can't believe we have the same door, it's a great door. I am so glad I could put up one useful photo. Did you notice how mine has been stained a much darker colour (originally cedar), it's walnut. Me and those browns hey . Thanks for the kind words. There is another ex MB client who visits the forums and I know she is close to finishing as well. We keep in touch and it's so good to know we will both be moving into our houses soon. Southies I love the door and sidelights too. I was actually shocked when I saw the sidelights because they are so wide. I was expecting them to be a lot slimmer than that. The builder was going to change them but then I decided I really liked them so am glad I kept them that size. Hawgyl, thankyou. I was starting to feel really bad because you have put up so many great pics that I decided to get off my backside and do it. We must be finishing around the same time. Plus I think we are both doing a bit of running around for those last minute "oh my god I need to change that" situations. And my favourites, "can't remember choosing that", or "I didn't think it would look like that". Thanks Big Red, I'm warming to my kitchen now that it's actually looking like one. Can't wait for the appliances and splashback to just finish it off. Not sure about my oven though, think it may be one of those exploding ones (according to one of those current affair shows). Mind you I think they covered just about every oven on the market in that story so I guess it's just a luck of the draw wait and see thing, wouldn't that be a nasty surprise. Thanks Claego, it is going really quick, so quick I can't keep up, which is a nice surprise and welcoming change after months of nothing. So that's my update for now. Plenty happening this week. Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 10May 23, 2009 10:37 pm Heaps more has been done at the house. I got a nice surprise when I visited and saw the splashback in. Our floorboards are also in. They are really dusty at the moment so will take a pic once the internal clean is done. There is not much left to be done now, just the carpet, appliances, final touch ups and a clean. We will be moving in early next month so it's almost all over, finally. We had our driveway done during the week. We chose the Buchan Mix with choc malt from the Mentone Pre-Mix Range. Used a company called Koncept Concreting and very happy with the results. We wanted to have it done before we moved in so we could at least park the cars in the garage and not have to move all our stuff over dirt and possibly mud. Plus it's one less thing to do after we move in which is always good. Your kitchen looks great and I agree with Southies, the sidelights look great and so does the front door, it lets lots of light in. No wonder you can't wait to move in! Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 17May 24, 2009 8:53 am We have Donuts, 10th June.
I'm trying to get things sorted now, still working out the window dressings so may have blankets up for a few days but that's okay. I keep changing my mind and trying to keep in budget so better to get it right now. Will have to contact removalists next week. Not my favourite thing to do but last move for a long time. Thanks for the lovely comments. I am really relieved about the facade because we never had a display home to look at. Even though MB were not technically custom builders, they were more volume builders, they still allowed for custom designs. I'm shocking at looking at plans so it's been a real wait and see for me. I am very happy with the facade. I am really happy with the driveway, probably more relieved than anything. We chose this mix (Buchan Mix with choc malt) because DH and I both agreed on it. My first visit to Mentone I was so blindsighted I couldn't pick anything. We both went together after that, looked at this mix and decided it was the one. That was an amazing achievement in itself. So carpet next week and hopefully an inside clean. I'll take the inside pics then because at the moment there is so much dust and dirt still, it all needs to be shiny for the photos. Plus I need to take them when kids are not with me, otherwise it's just impossible. And no car at the moment because for the 3rd time in 4 years someone crashed into my car. Talk about timing. RACV lady told me that's my 3 though, here's hoping, knock on wood and all that . I know the neighbours will be glad, think they are probably a bit tired of looking at what has been a building site for about 2 years. Have only had 2 complaints the whole time so probably not too bad. And on another really happy note, I know another MB'er who is moving into their home right about now. Just a couple more days and you can open that long awaited bottle of champagne (or chardy). I know you haven't put pics or many posts up here but I'm going to give you a big forum CONGRATULATIONS because you deserve it, we both know who you are. Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 18May 24, 2009 8:57 am Very nice house, You must be very proud.. and cant wait to be in there Thanks for the pics John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 19May 24, 2009 9:02 am Yay!! But I want more internal pics before I'm too nice to you! Congrats to the other MBer as well. What a bloody horrible time you have all had. Photogirl, from what I can see, you have three different render colours, the top storey, around the portico and window and then another around the garage. Would you mind telling me what colours they are? Thanks. And hurry up with those internal pics.. **taps foot**. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: We're going home, very very soon (pics) 20May 24, 2009 9:13 am Hey Joles First of all, CONGRATULATIONS. I was just reading your blog and all has been finalised with the bank. So you have site start soon. How exciting. Insert girly happy scream right here because I know how much you love that. Render. It's actually two colours. Looks different in the pic because that room above the garage comes out over it so providing a bit more shade. They are both Wattyl colours. Portico is Kooragang, top story and top of garage is Slate. Top of garage was never meant to be rendered but had major problem with steel lintel. Rather than pulling it all out went with render. It seems to work so another catastrophe averted. Ooooh forgot to say too that stairs are also getting done next week. They are also merbau to match floorboards. Here's a pic of stairs (have put them up before but they had cardboard on them, now they only have dirt and plaster dust ) but they will look different once they have their clear coating. Just for you Joles so you don't get a sore foot from tapping.
