Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 10, 2009 12:18 pm We were just going over our plans (for the 1 billionth time) and came across a note that says "provide a 250mm diametre removable inspection cover to ceilings below bath & spa wastes" . We didnt see this note before and we realise it will mean our formal dining and home theatre rooms will have these inspection covers. Does anyone have these in their two storey homes and do you have a picture you could post so I can see how they look? Also, does anyone have any pics of what their block looks like after its been 'battered' by the excavators? We are quite disappointed by the job our earth works people did on our block and to me it doesnt look like it's been battered. It looks like it's just been left - is the ground meant to loose? I assumed if it was battered it was compacted in some way? Re: Inspection covers in two storey homes & earth works 2May 10, 2009 1:21 pm I hope we don't have to do the same ... Sorry for a pointless comment, hope someone else can give us usefull feedback Re: Inspection covers in two storey homes & earth works 3May 10, 2009 3:15 pm Hi 78xtc, We will have the same, only one though, and it will be in the kitchen/meals area ceiling. I have a photo of our display home ceiling and it looks as though it's just like a round speaker cover in the approximate position of where ours will be. My SS says it will look like a heating vent, so it won't really stick out and be too obvious...apparantly! We also have marked on our plans a '10' in a pointed square box (can't think of another way to describe it!). This is an 'Opening in wall for plumbing riser stack inspection opening', and there is one on the lounge room wall of our plans (but NOT IN THE DISPLAY), and one in the fridge space (unable to see if there is one there due to Henley's fake fridges in their display homes!). I have photos, but I'll just have to resize and upload. Best thing to do is go back to the display and look in the ceiling where yours is marked on your plans and see what is there. If you haven't noticed it before, chances are no one else will in your home!! With regards to your land being 'battered', I'm not sure what you mean by the term? Ours was scraped, cut and filled to get a level platform, then dug up when they put in the sewerage pipes, then trenches dug and formwork done for root barrier and slab. It was a mess!! EDIT: Including photos... This is what is in our display in the approximate position of where our upstairs bath is. I am only assuming this is what the cover looks like, so please don't quote me on it, as our home isn't up to this stage yet!! Be interesting to see if there will be a cover here, or if holes get cut into the plaster IF there is a future problem and the riser stack needs inspecting!! We can't look at our particular display as it's been sold as they dont build the original Empire anymore I looked at all our display photos and couldnt see it (but then again I wasn't photographing the ceiling in all the rooms!)... I might check out the other displays at North Lakes to see what they look like! I knew I'd regret not taking pics of all the ceilings I will upload some pics of our 'batter' on our site and also our site plan so you can see what I mean after I've served up dinner... basically to batter it means instead of making us build a retaining wall at the end of our property the ground has been (or was meant to have been) sloped down and compacted... but it looks like they've just cut and pushed the dirt flat for the slab and then not sloped it down at all - they've just left is all loose... it looks terrible and hubby tried to walk near the edge and slipped off because it hasn't been compacted (we are talking about a drop of just over a metre!)... Re: Inspection covers in two storey homes & earth works 5May 10, 2009 7:50 pm No worries 78, I'd still be inclined to check out the Empire 483 anyway, especially if the floor plans are similar, so you can see what the inspection point cover will look like anyway! I know the 3 Wilshire's are all very similar, so you may be in luck! I didn't purposely take any pics of the ceiling either, this one just happened to be in!! I hadn't even noticed it, so I'm sure no one else will either!! Thanks for explaining 'batter'! I had not heard the term before. Our site was just cut and filled, so roughly cut at 600mm. There was no compacting of the 'slope', and quite a bit of it has eroded due to rain, and also disturbed from all the brickies scaffolding. We were not requred to have retaining walls, but will do them as part of our landscaping to make it all neat! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I don't remember it in the exhibition home, and my only picture of that room doesn't show much ceiling. We only found out it would be there when I mentioned to the SS how hard it would be to recover a lost diamond ring if it went down the bath plughole! Hope it's not too obtrusive - it will be not far from an aircon outlet. Regarding compacted dirt - our council demands "drop edge beams". The slab and brickwork on the high side of the house goes all the way down to ground level, no slope allowed. Extra cost of course. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. I'd agree with you on the batter. At 1:4 or 1m drop for every 4 metres distance off the back of your patio, there should be some form of compacting slope. If you are putting that pool in, with the current state of the cut/fill you would need to retain off the back of the alfresco. Contact S/S and see if they can get tractor back to smooth it off.
