Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 09, 2009 11:37 pm Hi, We mentioned to our SS last week that one of out pipes is out of place in the bathroom. He said that the plumbers will fix it by jackhammering and cutting out part of the slab and moving the pipe. Then putting in extra reo, termite protection, and refilling with concrete. Has this happened to anyone. Will this cause problems later on?? I cant find any info on this. Im really worried This photo is only one of them and is the small one, but the other pipe has relocated and the slab dug out more than 60 - 80cm across. so there is a big chunk out of the slab. I have no idea if it will impact on your slab strength and movement. Maybe an anonymous call to your local council and ask them the question and see what they think. We had an enthusiastic slab maker who overshot the house floor level into the garage. Hard to explain but it too meant they had to slice 2 inches of concrete between the house and garage floor. I was horrified but our SS assured us that at the outside it would make not impact at all. Hope you get some answers from those in the know on the forum. we are selling and moving to the coast, if you know someone who wishes to buy in Mernda Villages, please visit this link http://www.realestate.com.au/property-h ... -107083288 Re: They had to cut a HOLE in my SLAB ?? HELP (pic attached)*** 3May 10, 2009 12:19 am mellybuilding, the same thing happened to us! I was horrified at the time as well. Our plumbing for the toilets ( all 3!)were crooked and hitting the wall. They had to be straightened. We asked a few people and were told it happens and that is the way to fix it. Ours was fixed the same way as yours. We are nearly at handover and I had actually forgotten about it. I have found the pictures and posted them, ours dont look as neat as yours! HELP (pic attached)*** 4May 10, 2009 6:39 am Our pipes didn't have to get moved at all but the slab was poured over the pipe for our spa. I was worried for a while that the builders had totally forgottten there was a spa going there but then they jack hammered the spot and all was well again. Bit of a pain for you Re: They had to cut a HOLE in my SLAB ?? HELP (pic attached)*** 5May 10, 2009 10:04 am Thanks Guys!!! Brad and Sonya- I fell bad that you guys had to go through that, although, Im kinda relieved its not only me that its happened too Thanks for the pics. Have you had any probs with it?? did they fill yours with extra termite stuff??? They must have really overshot the measurements. Its the ensuite shower, toilet and bathroom shower that had to be moved. That pic I posted is of the small one. I will duck over this arvo and take a pic of the MASSIVE ONE and post later. The hole goes all the way down so that I can see the earth underneath!!! Im just worried because I didnt see the plumbers fill it with any extra reo or termite protection. When I got back to the block the hole was aready filled with cement. ( and not flush or smooth over either ) Was very tempted to ca;ll SS this morning to check, but seeing as its mothers day, probably should hold off. he might not be too happy But, first thing in the morning I will be on the phone Thanks for your replies guys. If anyone else has had this happen I would love to hear of any info you might have. Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! HELP (pic attached)*** 6May 10, 2009 10:06 am I would say cutting into the slab is not a problem in itself. It's how the "repair" is done that matters. You want to make sure that al the structural, waterproofing and termite protection is not compromised. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: They had to cut a HOLE in my SLAB ?? HELP (pic attached)*** 7May 10, 2009 10:28 am It happens all the time. I'd guess that at least a quarter of the houses around here have had one or more pipes moved. Perhaps tape measures are in short supply these days? Re: They had to cut a HOLE in my SLAB ??
