In our copy of the building design guidelines, it states that it is only 'recommended'! It doesnt say that it is required... Well it isn't required but you won't be able to access the services that come through the optic fibre. Wiring up your house will allow you to have Phone, internet, Foxtel and Free to air TV without the need for satellites or antennas. If you don't require any of the above then no need to install it. There is lots of different options so it depends on what your needs and requirements are. Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 6May 10, 2009 8:56 am The only things I want is a phone and just the internet, like I have now where I am living. I am getting a regular antenna on the house for the TV. So can I just get this without installing this Telstra stuff?? I am getting a regular antenna on the house for the TV. So can I just get this without installing this Telstra stuff?? We are building at Harrison View and according to Delfin there is no underground copper telephone cable at the estate. If you need any of the services mentioned by Andy (telephone, internet or Foxtel) - you have no other choice but to get these services from Telstra Velocity network through the fibre optic cable. You don't have to go for a full-blown Smart Wiring though. Telstra recommends putting two data/phone points and two TV points into each room, which is massive and that's why many Smart Wiring packages are so expensive. But it is only a recommendation and it has nothing to do with connection to the fibre optic network. If a telephone line and a broadband connection are all that you need – you don't need full-blown Smart Wiring, you don't need all those wires, all those data/phone/TV points, you don't need StarServe. Just try to find a Telstra Velocity installer who is willing to customise the solution. You don't need to spend money putting an antenna on the roof as you can access via the optic fibre. eclpse Wakeboard - what part of Laurimar are you in ? Harrison's View Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 10May 11, 2009 12:24 pm I found out that we do have to have the Telstra Smart Wiring in the house. But there are 3 different packages. The basic package is all I need and that includes 1 internet point, 2 tv and 2 phone points. Does anyone know some one who installs the Smart Wiring in the house?? Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 11May 16, 2009 7:30 pm Hi, I am also building in Laurimar - The Briars. We are having our wiring done by Smart Wiring Australia, their basic packs start from about $700 - well worth a call 1300 881 810. Good luck, Mel Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 12May 16, 2009 7:41 pm My smart wiring was done by Will, who lives in laurimar. I doubt you could get a cheaper price elsewhere. His website is www.tvtel.biz Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 14May 18, 2009 12:02 am Hi Ari, No only some parts of Laurimar have FTTH. All of Harrison's View, some of the Briars and a couple of other pockets here and there. Definitely a positive to have FTTH, we currently live at Hillcroft, it took 6 months to get ADSL and its slow, I'm looking forward to building in The Briars. Regards Nathan Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 16Jun 20, 2009 8:00 am Can i just ask..... We are also building in Harrison View..... and yes.... have got all the smart wiring done! Yet.... Stand in our driveway looking towards your place WBA.... and there is antenna's everwhere! So whats the deal there???? We were told by delfin that it was part of thier rules. Harrisons View would be without antenna's?????? Even our next door neighbours haven't got the smart wiring done.... and were not told that they had to have it! Found it very odd that we were told so! So basically when we move in..... will we be able to have the net, phone and telly going or is it still a work in progress all this fibre optic stuff??? Thanks in advance! I spoke with someone named Nathan on 1300 881 810 and he explained that because we are in a Velocity estate you need smart wiring for TV/Phone & internet. I spoke with my builder who at first was confused and then quoted me $4k for 8 points, I called SWA back and have now had the job (initial wiring) done for under $1k, also got an alarm from them for a lot less than the builder quoted. All in all it appears the builders are ill prepared and charge big $$ for something they don't even understand! Building with HT, currently at lock up, fingerts crossed it all goes well. Bye Re: ANYONE BUILDING IN LAURIMAR ESTATE 18Jun 29, 2009 12:27 am Well if you want no hassels with future upgrades on technology then install it.
