The gate valves have a thin spindle that after a few years of use tend to snap after being tightened down into the off position, staying in the off position. Thanks We'll bear that in mind Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 22May 10, 2009 3:08 pm By the sounds of it each bank of tanks you are planning on would have an inlet with a separate downpipe - so you would still get good fill in a downpour of both tanks then with time they would equalise - those particular types of tanks do only connect with those small connectors but you can connect other tanks in a similar way with large pipes. Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 23May 10, 2009 3:11 pm You're absolutely right in that the way we're planning it each bank would have it's own downpipe, so this should help with the transfer of water between each of the tanks that make up each 5000 litre bank. Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 24May 10, 2009 7:06 pm With each tank being 2500 litres x 2 plus the other one you need to think about your roof catchment area and how long it will take to equalize. As to larger pipes between them - you may find that the inlet at the bottom is your restricting / limiting factor. As an aside - what do you plan to do once you've caught the water? Steve We think that we should be able to get 70-100 sq m of roof draining into each of the two banks of 5000 litre tanks. Regarding usage, it'll be for toilet, laundry and garden, car wash, general usage. What's the annual rainfall data and more importantly (monthly rainfall data) from BOM for your area? According to http://www.stratco.com.au/services/gree ... rtanks.asp Per 100 sq m of catchment the rainfall should be: Jan 2000 litres Feb 1500 litres Mar 2500 litres Apr 3500 litres May 6900 litres Jun 10700 litres Jul 8800 litres Aug 7900 litres Sep 7400 litres Oct 5200 litres Nov 4100 litres Dec 3100 litres Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 29May 10, 2009 7:22 pm onc_artisan If your annual rainfall is 1000mm then you will be dealing with 70-100kl pa You will definately need drainage diversion 10mm of rain between 700 - 1000ltrs be prepared Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is drainage diversion? Is it adequate overflows for all the tanks? Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 30May 10, 2009 7:32 pm With peaks and troughs of rainfall you'll find them overflowing sometimes and empty at others and as usual when you need the water in summer - it's low rainfall so your tanks will be of use for 3 to 6 months IMO. re overflow - needs to be connected to stormwater pipe to avoid flooding neigbours etc Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 31May 10, 2009 7:45 pm you can have three sets of drainage control they will all over flow if all the top outlets are the same height.. though you could plumb these and pipe them away... We've looked at the usage and the content of the tanks and how it varies during the year. That's why we wanted 2 x 5000 = 10000 litres as with a 5000 litre tank it would be empty for part of the year Ok - I get what you mean about overflow. We'll make sure it is connected to the stormwater drain. Thanks Re: Can you connect multiple rainwater tanks just at the bottom? 33May 10, 2009 7:54 pm onc_artisan you can have three sets of drainage control they will all over flow if all the top outlets are the same height.. though you could plumb these and pipe them away...
