Ikea also have a wall mounted fold out computer desk which I think is quite tasteful and takes up a small amount of space. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: STUDY with BIR or without BIR 22May 08, 2009 9:06 am I don't think a 3.0 x 3.0 room with a BIR would be a great selling point as a fourth bedroom. My requirements for a study...a completely blank room with no robes...work out how you will use the room effectively then furnish without the obstacles, you can buy very efficient study furniture at any number of places...if you need shelves buy shelves...if you need deeper units for computer gear buy a specific unit...I went down the semi custom route using these guys http://www.homeofficemadeeasy.com.au/ P.S. I work from home a fair bit and use my study as a study...there's nothing worse than a half *rsed study design... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: STUDY with BIR or without BIR 23May 08, 2009 9:17 am A single robe is handy for holding crap that you don't want on display, especially if your room has multiple uses. Our old "spare room" was a study, music practice room, guest room and also provided extra storage in a small house. The double robe held my craft supplies, several guitars, an amplifier and various boxes of stuff that had no other home until we built a massive shed some years after we moved in. It was furnished with a computer desk and chair on one wall and a sofa bed on the opposite one, plus a bookcase placed beside the robe. IKEA has some good solutions at reasonable prices if you're not able to go down the custom-built path. This one could work, tucked in next to a robe, and maybe still leave room for a sofa bed and small side table, or some other furniture option: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Multi-purpose rooms are always difficult to furnish - you inevitably have to compromise on one thing or another. If it seems unworkable, maybe you need to re-think the room's purpose. If it will get a lot of use as a study, perhaps you can come up with another solution for guest accommodation. Or if you expect to have frequent guests, maybe the study area needs to be incorporated into another room? Re: STUDY with BIR or without BIR 24May 08, 2009 9:53 am 3 x 3 is too small for a robe I think. We had a robe in a room that size at mum's old place. That room was referred to as the shoebox. Whenever someone had to move out then move back home they got the shoebox. I had the shoebox for a while.... my head nearly exploded. Hard without a floorplan, but I'd be looking at setting it up properly as a study and just using a portable wardrobe when you had guests stay. Something like in the link below, then it can be removed and packed up when it isn't needed. Depends on how often you'll have guests staying as to the importance of a permanent wardrobe. As kek said, if you can steal it from an adjoining room, that's the ideal solution, but if will actually eat up some of the 3m x 3m floorspace, I wouldn't do it. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Clothes-hanger-R ... 7C294%3A50 I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I also use the BIR more as a little WIR with a single bifold door. I have a heap of AV and automation equipment (including Fox box, Router, Modem etc) at one end and the other end is shelving for books, CD's etc. It works quite well. By doing this, you get a whole wall for the bedhead in bedroom 4. Just seems to allow more practical use for that room IMO. Good luck Em That;s more practical solution. Thanks Mel&Em This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
