Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 06, 2009 4:10 pm Hi All, Just thought I would say how fantastic this site is - as first home buyers we have had many questions and most of these have been answered on this site - even the ones we think are silly!! We are about to sign our building contracts with Big M and are considering putting in a grey water treatment system. The price seems pretty high - yet I can definately see the benefits in installing this system. Has anyone else installed a grey water treatment system or have any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks alot Re: Grey Water Treatment System 2May 06, 2009 4:17 pm There have been a few threads on this - sorry I'm hopeless with computers, so can't point you to them, but if you use the search button, you might be able to find them! We were going to have our house built "Grey Water ready" with PD - ready for the Nubian system, but were talked out of it by someone high up in the PD rankings. Depends what size house you're building (single/double storey, how many loos, etc) amd which system, I guess. Our neighbours, in a single storey house, have just had that system installed in their (single storey) house, and they're happy with it. Do you mind me asking why you got talked out of the system? There seems to be so many systems that vary greatly in price across the market. We are looking at the azuratec system at this stage & are building the 29sq Jasper. Cheers Re: Grey Water Treatment System 4May 06, 2009 5:15 pm No problem We built a 2 story house, with 4 ensuites upstairs, as well as 1 ens downstairs, plus a pwdr room. They had only done 2 in NSW, none in Vic, and they had had problems with bad smells in the ones they did in NSW, in 2 storey homes. I think they were having problems with the fall of some of the pipes, or something...??? Plus, it was a very new system at the time (18 mths ago) If yours is a single storey, you may not face that issue - as I said, our nighbours are very happy with theirs, which was put in only a few mths ago. Good luck! My sales consultant told me that most of the builder's plumbers don't like installing grey water systems. That's why some of the builders will charge you HEAPS for that. Depends on what sort of system you want, price vary. We're going to install the Waterwise system coz it's set up mainly for garden and seems to have less problems than others. Check them out: http://www.waterwisesystems.com/ My builder is happy to let us choose whatever system we want, and they'll come up a final quote, which won't be too dear compare to the price that you talk to the retailer themselves. Do some research on what price you're going to pay when you do it yourself, then you can negotiate with your builder if they charge you too high. Good luck with it! We're still at the initial planning stage, so won't have the price quote back until later. Re: Grey Water Treatment System 6May 08, 2009 11:53 am Hi There Thanks for the weblink. Its interesting once you start do some research and ask questions on prices!! So far it looks like saving us a few thousand. We are only at early stages - colours and electrical appointment Monday - so we are thinking of just getting the plumbing sorted - then spending more time on researching different products. Goodluck with your build Let us know how you go with your system!! the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 3 11937 Once you know the basics, the rest is easy. The cost/benefit of wired setups for the house are no longer what they used to be. Lots of wireless options. Eufy, Arlo and… 2 9767 |
