Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 04, 2009 1:20 pm Hi All, I am just about to start building my first house with Blueprint Homes. I'm a little bit nervous about it as I haven't really heard of them before. I am only 23 and I am living out past Kalgoorlie, while building in Perth, so I'm finding it a bit difficult not being there to sign all the paperwork etc. I thought that joining up here, somebody might be able to ease my mind by giving me a bit of positive feedback about Blueprint Homes? Congratulations on your build. Try not to get too worried and enjoy the journey. It should be fun. And it is great to see how your house comes together. As far as Blueprint goes, I heard they are ok. I remember loking at their homes, and value for money I think they are good, their houses are simple but massive. Welcome to the forum, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. I hadn't heard much about them but what i had heard all seemed good. So far everything has been really smooth, even with all my little changes. I combined two plans that I liked, the aspen and the capri (but the concept versions). I have just signed my preliminary contracts today and paid my deposit so the ball should get rolling now! Have you chosen your plan etc? I've gone with the Kingston design but made a HEAP of changes to it. I completely resigned the kitchen and ensuit and took out a bedroom to extend the alfresco area. I also changed the front elevation to look more like the Boston design. The people there were really helpful and all up I think all my changes only cost around $20,000 which I was happy with! I really just want to get in while the $21,000 is still available! (which means all my changes/upgrades were free, technically!) Im getting pretty excited, settlement is in a few weeks, then I think they said 45 days til the slab gets laid. Where abouts are you building, Laura? They sound pretty similar. I'm building in the green estate in Butler, how about yourself? So you've had your prestart? Building with Blueprint homes, Perth WA Prestart complete, settlement 14/08/09 Re: Building with Blueprint Homes 6May 05, 2009 11:29 am Well Ive put down my desposits and had the soil tested and all that. Finance has been approved so now I'm just finishing off the paperwork and waiting for the selections meeting - I was going through the folder last night picking everything out, pretty exciting! Ive just realised the Kingston isn't on their website, but if you do a google search on 'blueprint homes kingston' and click the top one it shows a few plans that arent on their website. I'm building in a new estate in Hocking. Its a bit further out than I'd like to be, but to find a good sized block for cheap wasn't very easy! Yep I just got my selection folder yesterday when I signed the prelim contracts so was having a good look last night! Way too many choices!! I love Hocking, it's really not far out at all! Only 20 mins from the city. I will be 35 mins from the city in Butler! But it's also nice and close to the beach and lots of my friends so I'm very happy with where I chose. And you are right, you can't get bigger blocks anywhere anymore! I was lucky, mine is 612m2 but you have to weigh up living closer to the city or a a bigger block I guess! Anyway keep me posted with your progress!!! I got conditional approval from the bank last week so I'm just waiting on final plans to be drawn up and signed. Can you tell me how long it took for them to draw up your final plans? I'd love to hear some of your selections? At the moment all I have really decided on is a monument roof and most likely the 'albany cream' brick. Building with Blueprint homes, Perth WA Prestart complete, settlement 14/08/09 Re: Building with Blueprint Homes 11Jun 04, 2009 11:09 am Laura - I'm pretty sure it was around 2-3 weeks. It may have been longer for me as mail takes a few extra days to reach me! I've gone for the Albany Cream as well. It looks nice and modern. I'm still tossing up colours for my window frames (probably sounds kind of stupid!) I think I like the deep blue colourbond roofing, but I like black window frames and I dont know if it will look weird against the blue? Otherwise, I think theres like a deep grey colourbond... although that could clash with my deep grey portico... Haha too many options! Nicci - I'm still waiting to hear back on a date for pre-start. I live out past Kalgoorlie in the middle of nowhere, so I have to try and sort dates around work as well! I'm still trying to make a few decisions on little things like door handles, but Ive got all the main things sorted, like bricks and benchtops. I'm too excited! I want to have the meeting now! However we're building with Scott Park Homes anyway which is Blueprints big brother (offices are right next to eachother also). We have chosen Monument colorbond and were originally going to use Geographe Limestone for our bricks, but at the last moment during prestart we changed to Albany Cream as it looked much nicer Window frame colour is hard, my wife almost tore her hair out! It wasn't until we were sitting in prestart and had a sample of each colour that we identified Black would be best suited for us. We were going to go Charcoal, but Charcoal has a dark-blue tinge about it, so that might be a good option for you if you're going to have a blue roof? Good luck Re: Building with Blueprint Homes 13Jun 04, 2009 11:38 am Hi Rex, where abouts are you building? What colour is monument? (sorry, I havent got the selections folder with me at the moment!) I really like the black window frames, I think they look really smart. I think I like the bolder look, so maybe the dark blue roof isn't the way to go? What are they like with prestart? Like, do they expect you to have chosen everything before you get there, or can you play around with colours a little bit at the meeting? I was unsure as I hadn't heard of anyone using it before but I think it looks really clean and modern. I'm thinking wither charcoal of black for window frames too. NatB- Monument is the true charcoal of the colorbond range. Ironstone is the charcoal/blue and Woodland Grey is the charcoal/green. What about kitchen and bathroom colours Nat and Rex? This is where I am up to at the moment Building with Blueprint homes, Perth WA Prestart complete, settlement 14/08/09 Re: Building with Blueprint Homes 15Jun 04, 2009 11:55 am We're building in Piara Waters, Burtonia Gardens Estate. As Nat said, Monument is the darkest colour which goes against my energy conservation side, but for us it looks the best We were very certain of Woodland Grey but it looks extremely green when viewed from certain angles. I didn't want a green roof When we first started thinking about it all a few months ago we originally wanted a blue roof, until we saw a few houses with blue roofs and changed our mind! IronStone looks good, but Ocean Blue is way to blue for us. We went to Homebase Expo a couple of times and we were certain on Austral Geographe Limestone. When we got to prestart they had a display wall with all the bricks and it looked nothing like we remembered, so we changed to Albany Cream. Very glad we both agreed on this! Prestart with SPH was great. We went in very prepared so it was a breeze, with just a few things to ask about. They expect you to have made your tile/laminate selections done at European Ceramics/Crosby beforehand. Paint colours we only had our render colour selected, all other colours such as facia, guttering, pantry doors etc etc we chose in prestart... but we had a general idea of what we wanted anyway. I left kitchen and bathroom stuff up to my better half She chose dark grey flooring, with white everywhere else except cuboard doors which are a nice wood-grain. I got our prestart prices thismorning actually.... a cool $8k+ worth of changes/additions Re: Building with Blueprint Homes 16Jun 04, 2009 1:53 pm I can't remember which bathroom colours I chose I'll have to have a look and let you know the names. I know I wanted to chop and change the selections but I can't remember the names of them. I've got so many questions to ask them! I want to go with the wood look garage door, but I guess will depend how much extra it will cost. Same with shower screens - In my ensuit I have made a whole wall a shower with two shower heads (one at each end) So I want a full screen not a half screen/half curtain. But yet again, I'd be interested to find out prices. I think I'm going to be in for a rude shock when it comes to prestart! I want everything perfect from the start. I've already made $23,000 worth of changes and have a feeling theres a going to be a few grand more involved!! Where abouts are you building? Monument is nice and neutral, so if you even want to change the colour of your render the roof is almost guaranteed to match! Hmm the black looks really good. I feel like I'm going round in circles now! I wanted the black, then I didnt, now I do again! I think I might need to wait until the meeting when I have all the samples in front of me. ..But so far, black is looking like the go. I'm starting to wonder how the black would look against an Ironstone colourbond?
