Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2009 8:09 pm Hi, our bricking has almost finished and our living areas seen quite dark as our biggest window area (timber bifolds) are on the south side and have the alfresco from them so gets no direct sunlight. There is also west windows but these are only 2.5m from the fence so don't get lots of direct light either. Just wondering if other people found their house to be a lot lighter once the plaster/paint was installed. Have chosen an almost pure white paint so hoping this will help. Re: Am concerned our living areas will be too dark. 2May 03, 2009 9:14 pm A family member of mine had this problem, and the paint colour and flooring made the room a lot brighter. Although it's still a little bit dark, it worked out well for them as the room is used for a bar/pool table area, where brightness isn't necessarily of high importance. That may differ for you however. There's many ways to increase the brightness of a room though if you find it's a little dark. Even things like light-coloured furniture can improve how light/dark a room is. But I'm no expert! It's so dark! when our bricks were laid. As soon as the plaster was up, it seemed bigger and much lighter. Choosing a light coloured paint for the walls should help in south-facing areas too. There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently.
