Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Rendition Homes 141Mar 23, 2010 2:06 pm Hi folks, lots of people progressing well, it seems. We're still in the selections stage, waiting for planning approval from council - going before a panel meeting in a couple of weeks, hopefully will go through alright. Has anyone had much done through Austronics? What were their prices like? I'm paticularly interested in the data cabling. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 142Mar 23, 2010 8:42 pm Hi Spud McDoug We went through Austronics, but did not really get a lot done and didn't shop around. My husband had one meeting with them and they do the rest. Sorry I am not much help. We have hand over next Tuesday 30 March, wooo hooo. Fabes Re: Building with Rendition Homes 144Mar 24, 2010 7:36 pm Can't believe how excited I am for both of you. So sad I was always just a couple of months behind you both and now you are both about to move in and I am still just slabbed - still I'm not complaining I'm thrilled to have a slab!! Its been four weeks on this coming monday since the slab was poured so I am assuming the frame will start soon although no timber has been delivered yet. Have you worked out how to do photos yet guys - go to photobucket.com. I'm so glad to hear you have all been happy with RH. We are really happy now things are progressing. Roar how long until the baby is due - I hope you are all settled in by the time he or she comes along - especially for your floor guys. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Building with Rendition Homes 145Mar 24, 2010 10:31 pm The bank has come through with the cheque So handover is this Friday - at long last!!! Thanks for sharing our excitement, Anna1 - you will have to keep us posted with pics and updates. Baby #2 due 4 July so it gives us some time to settle in. Here's hoping the timber flooring is in by then! And I'll try to put up some pics soon. Will take some current shots in the coming days. From memory we're all having different facades on our versions of the Oxford so it will be interesting to see how they turn out. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 146Mar 28, 2010 9:37 am So how did handover go???? The timber wont be delivered until 16 April which equates to atleast a 7 week cure time, who knows when they will actually start - don't think we are going to have a 5.5 month build somehow. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Building with Rendition Homes 147Mar 28, 2010 1:31 pm Handover went well... Except our keys don't work in the deadlock doors! Can get in through the sliding doors but nothing else works. We were thinking we were overlooking something but it turns out friends who have built said the keys should just unlock straight away and render the builder's key obsolete. Frustrating when hubby drove 50 mins to seal the garage floor only to find he couldn't get in! So I drove out and back to deliver the garage remote so he could paint. Aaaaagh! Here's things get easier from here on in. Concrete floor was painted today in lieu of the timber floor and actually looks quite good! This rain in the Hills has made our backyard a quagmire so paving quotes will have to be organised asap. Anna1 - Frustrating I know! Fingers crossed that it goes smoothly once the timber is delivered. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 148Mar 28, 2010 4:29 pm Hi all, My husband and I signed an Initial Works Contract with RH in the last week of February - our consultant has been fabulous. She has been helpful, upfront and brilliant with communication. Our plans are going to Onkaparinga council on Monday or Tuesday 6th or 7th. We were wondering - after reading so many stories on this thread - how long has it taken from the Initial Works Contract for most people who aren't having to demolish first? We really want a rough finish time as we have sold our house and will be moving in with my parents until the house is complete!! Thanks Re: Building with Rendition Homes 149Mar 29, 2010 11:16 am Hi Keldo, I just had to give you a warning as your situation sounds JUST like mine!!!! We are currently living with my parents, and have a baby due in May! During the signing up process we were given a rough timeline of April 2010 as handover, however realistically we will be lucky to be in by Christmas I think! We signed our contract in the last week of February 2009 but the contractors are still to go onsite for the first time. The paperwork process has taken over 12 months when we were initially advised around 6 months in the 'sales spiel'. Onkaparinga Council were good with the time it took to receive approval - about 10 weeks so the delay has purly been in the hands of RH. Where are you building? If your experience is anything like ours, expect about a 20 month process from signing to handover. GOOD LUCK! Re: Building with Rendition Homes 150Mar 29, 2010 3:25 pm We signed in August 2008. Slab poured October 2009. Handover end of March 2010. So 19 months in total. In the meantime we sold our house in August 2008 and moved into a rental thinking it wouldn't be for long. Our land took longer to settle than expected (3 months delay) but still... smbader - you have my sympathy. Our baby is due early July so we really were cutting it fine to get into our house. In the end we got sick of delaying our family plans because of a builder. Baby was conceived the weekend the slab was poured! I agree - a lot of waiting must be endured if you want to build with them. BUT having said that, our house is fantastic and we are so happy with the end result. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 151Mar 29, 2010 7:24 pm We also signed with RH in Feb 2009 and are still waiting for a slab. We were told 6-8 months from contract signing to site start and 6-8 months of build time. We anticipate the house quality will be excellent, but the waiting game can be really tough. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 152Mar 30, 2010 6:53 pm Thanks Roar - yes we were sick of putting the building before the baby so just went for it and opps... we conceived in the first month!!! Mum and dad have been wonderful and this weekend I am decorating the nursery (AKA the office). Magoo, sounds like the 6-8 months from contract signing to site start and 6-8 months of build time is the regular cow manure story they give all their clients! I'll be interested to know how you get along as it sounds like we are on the same timeframe. Re: Building with Rendition Homes 153Mar 30, 2010 9:09 pm Hello All WE HAVE KEYS!!!!!!, we had handover at 4 pm today and the house is officaially ours. We had our walk through last Thursday and found minor things that needed attention. Our floorboards started yessterday, the paving people have started and also the decking, the house still looks like a construction site but hopefully not for too much longer. Our site supervisor has been really good, he has organised for the appliances to be installed the day before we move in so that they don't go 'walking'. It is soooo exciting to have the keys, I don't think it has sunk in yet as we are not living there but the end is in sight. The kids love going to the house they run around screaming and play hide and seek in all of the cupboards, I try not to stress and tell them off every 5 sec, but it is hard they are just as excietd as us. Roar - Congratulations on you rhand over. Please post pic, I will too once I have time to take some photos. We signed our contact in June 2008, builders interview June 2009, demolished existing house in July 2009, slab poured in Sept 2010, handover March 30 2010. All up it has taken us 20 months, the time frames that they give you are rubbish. We are living with my in-laws with two childern 3.5 years and 2 year old, it has been fine, they are great peopleo we have taken over their house, they are just as excited about us getting our keys, for different reasons. We are really hapy with the quality of the work that was done, I hope everyones build is as smooth as ours. Will keep you posted and look forward to hearing about everyone elses build. FAbes That's great news for you Fabes, from memory your not too far from us at Marion, we must say we have been surprised we had NO trouble with the council what so ever so we were very lucky I guess, we signed on the 7th Sept 2008 and we slept in our new place for the first time on the 12th Dec 2009 so all in all it was pretty good even though it didn't seem like it at times, the bad memories have faded, now all we need to do is win the lotto to get our landscaping done!! Hope you enjoy your place as much as we are ours. Vid Re: Building with Rendition Homes 155May 10, 2010 11:53 am Hi everyone..... we are looking at possibly building with Rendition as we have such an awkward block and had issues with the original plan etc that we had with Statesman. We now know that a different style house with a design to suit type builder would be better. We have a couple of options and this is one of them. Would love to know everyones feedback on how they went with Rendition and any tips. I will also read thru this thread. Thanks in advance and hope everyones builds are going well. So far we have a frame, windows, plumbing and gutters. The roof and bricks should be underway in the next week. The attention to detail has been fantastic. All tradies we have had dealings with so far have been fantastic. The carpenter even moved some windows for us after they had already built them in - he didn't have to as he had built them exactly to contract specs but I guess it is the pride he took in his work as well as keeping the customer happy. If you are happy to wait I would highly recommend them, I guess quality doesn't come quickly but we are hoping it will be worth it in the end. A lot of other builders seem to take a while to get started also. Goodluck with your decision. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Building with Rendition Homes 159May 14, 2010 2:20 pm Thanks very much for your feedback guys!
