Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Provincial Homes 634May 22, 2018 9:24 pm taurus222 Guys, Our build contract started in first week of July. Currently they have erected the frames and thats it. 6 month up, and we are still in frame stage. We have wasted lot of energy, money on this builder. My sincere advice to all newbies "" Please stay out this worst Builder" Provincial homes"" Strange, i do see few positive comments about this builder in this forum, might be their own guys doing so. I doubt, its gonna take another 5 more months to complete a half baked home. Mind u, flooring and aircons are done thru other guys. regards joe Have they responded to why its taken this long? What specifically has caused the hold up? Re: Provincial Homes 635May 22, 2018 10:27 pm Hi everyone, haven’t posted here in awhile but we’re pretty much just finished with bricks and roof. Yes it has been a slow process but the standard of their work has been pretty good. My cousin is building with another builder and they are having a horrendous experience. It was suggested to us that we ask for an inspection after each stage. Our site manager has been pretty great with communication. Anticipated finish by August but like what everyone is saying, things are slow. Are they able to fix that once its all locked up? I think I can at least partially answer this, without any Provincial Homes knowledge at all; yes they can fix it, they can fix anything at any time, but the longer you wait to get them to fix something (a) the more it costs them to fix it & hence the higher the chance of an argument, (b) the more likelihood that the plasterers that fix it will stuff something else (or the painters if it's already been painted before it's fixed). The (b) is the biggest thing to be concerned about, IMHO. It was like each trade had blinkers on, and if something they wrecked didn't directly relate to their work it didn't matter (eg. paint on tiles, the cleaners not wiping caustic stuff off our cupboard handles properly so half of them are rusting after 3 years). You can watch the cycle of Trade A coming in to fix something which breaks something Trade B needs to come in & fix which breaks something Trade A needs to come in & fix etc etc. Re: Provincial Homes 637May 23, 2018 12:49 pm SG biggest thing I learned is do not let yourself be put into an awkward position due to SS estimates. I was originally told 3rd week of April because "When the Gyprock is done I always predict within a week of actual finish" and he told me April. Then was told "Its always 5 weeks from Kitchen Cupboards going in but in your case 4 because we arent doing your flooring and you are a single storey house" which put it at the end of April. 1 week from each forecast I asked if we are still on track and it would get shifted by another week then another week. Now end of May I have multiple tradies booked in, living with parents and friends looking after our dog because we relied on the estimates. We are now in a mad rush to get in despite having minor outstanding works and defects. I cant help but wonder if its a tactic they use to try reduce your negotiating power at the end by putting you in awkward situations like im in. If you have been given August I would highly recommend preparing for an October finish. At least that way you arent disappointed each week the date moves and you have ALOT of power at the end to argue everything you arent happy with. Not up to your standard = they dont get the last progress payment. Forg thanks for the insight. I am pretty tempted to get them to correct it because it is very noticeable for me and on a wall I would normally have bare. Ill let the missus have a look and if she doesn't notice it I might leave it - still point it out though as a defect. Re: Provincial Homes 638Aug 12, 2018 1:05 pm Hi everyone, It has been silent here. How is everyone going? As for our (hubby and I) house, garage door and alarm installed. We're closing in on the finish line. There have been some mistakes being made but provincial has been good on addressing them. What stage is everyone up to? Take your broken heart and turn it into art. -Carrie Fisher- Re: Provincial Homes 639Aug 13, 2018 8:37 am We too have had our fair share of mistakes and Provincial have sorted out the issue but we have fallen even further back with handover another 4-5 weeks away!. Just need to advise anyone that is up to tile selection that you take photos of all your tile selections including the grout . This makes it easy to double check when the wrong tiles are installed!. Re: Provincial Homes 640Aug 14, 2018 10:41 pm Duke145, did they install the wrong tiles??? That's a pretty major mistake. As long as Provincial is addressing these mistakes straight away then that's a good thing. I have now heard of 3 families who have used other builders and they (the builders) are either not addressing major problems or are delaying to fix them. According to one of the neighbours, tradies have been onsite till late. My observation is any "outside" work is the slow process and any inside work is when things speed up....or the building industry has slowed down lately so tradies are more available. Gutters are done. Next week is underground water tank and rain garden. Take your broken heart and turn it into art. -Carrie Fisher- The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1618 Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74717 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
