I cant believe how quick its come along for you. What parts is your husband doing on apart from extra noggins? Aircon etc? The Empire looks absolutely massive - but I guess it really is though! Cant wait for more pics!! Thanks!!! I'm sure it will go back to not being so huge once the bricks and walls are up! There are some things I wish I'd made bigger but it's too late now!!! I swear my husband would be happy to build the damn house himself... every time I mention something he says "dont worry I'll do it after".... after.. after... after... have I ever mentioned that I married a "Gonna" nor a "Doer" Anyway we are having the tiles and carpets & air con done after handover (by qualified tradies!!)... but hubby is trying to convince me to let him do all the concreting including the driveway (God help me!)... We also just discovered that the batts are only in the upper level and roof so we've asked if we can batt downstairs - especially the home theatre... so if we get permission to do this I can just see it turning into a debacle... I printed up the thread on installing batts and left it on the toilet floor It's the only place he does any 'quality' reading Re: 78XTC's Empire - Upstairs Frame! 12.5.09 - pics 63May 13, 2009 6:07 am So yesterday they got the roof frame done! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We finally met our SS yesterday (we think the roofers called him but eh! it got him onsite!)... He seemed very nice and is happy for us to put batts in all downstairs and extra noggins etc. He is also changing a massive void in our walk-in-pantry into a broom closet for us as it's wasted space! Saying this, after some heavy discussion hubby and I are still not happy with the batter/earth works at the back of the property. SS assurred us that to 'batter' ground does not mean it will be compacted in any way but aside from that we have some concerns about the safety of what they've done so I'm thinking I might ring the BSA today and see where I stand now that Pl@ntation have told me that it's fine Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 64May 13, 2009 6:55 am Looking good. I love seeing the roof framme go on a house, you can really see it take shape Don't worry, I have a 'gonna' too. Some things are just a work in progress as my DH says Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 65May 13, 2009 9:49 pm I've just stumbled across this thread doing a search for feed back on Plantation... I'm @ Morayfield, building a 2 story (Doulton) even in Rice bricks... looks like things are speeding along now, I feel so reassured now I'm right at the tail end of that arduous waiting involved with the planning/contracts/colours process. I've got every thing ready to go bar the naughty banks fax through of the authority to commence form!!! You must be so relived its all finally happening, I'm so jealous & hope to be where you're at in a month! http://aqua-blog-building.blogspot.com/ ... mostly done, hand over to come...Nov 9th!!!! Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 66May 13, 2009 11:44 pm Aqua - thats awesome! We actually just faxed off that form today to Plantation so we're at the tail end of it now too and are ready to start in the next 10 days we were told. We found out our SS is Adam as well and he sounds pretty good and easy going as 78xtc has described! 78xtc we want to do the same and change a void to a broom closet too, so at least we know Adam can't say no now! hehe. You've set the standard Oh and we were just gonna put battens up anyway without asking as Plantation during our NHP said a flat out no but if you have been given permission too, then we'll just ask nicely Our Blog! http://cityplantation.blogspot.com | Building the Havana 485 with Plantation Homes (Henley) Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 67May 14, 2009 9:06 am Aqua I've just stumbled across this thread doing a search for feed back on Plantation... You must be so relived its all finally happening, I'm so jealous & hope to be where you're at in a month! We actually had planned on building the Doulton - I especially loved the Coomera Springs display (its now closed) because it had the white floor tiles I loved! Anyway we got right up to making our contract apt and then changed our mind to the Empire because the bedrooms were just a little too small for what we needed... we looked at extending the whole top level out and making the bedrooms bigger but the cost was basically the same as upgrading to the Empire (and you go the free standing bath) so we decided to go with the Empire.... The thing I found the hardest was losing that Butlers Pantry - so I said to Pl@ntation - either find a way to do a Walk-in Pantry in the Empire otherwise the whole thing's off! Funnily enough it took the guys less than 2 hours to come up with new drawings! You guys are nice and close @ Caboolture - where are you building exactly? I'd love to drive by for a sticky once you start construction!! Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 68May 14, 2009 9:11 am Gester Aqua - thats awesome! We worked out that he would only have about 2 hours a week per house! Just as well I'm so anal retentive and check everything over with all but a magnifying glass But it kind of puts things into perspective - anyway we are meant to have our gutters etc put on today or tomorrow so hopefully we'll see some "colour" when we go out tomorrow!! The void thing he said we'd probably have to swing the tradie some beer which is no problems We actually took the roofers some Boags up on Tuesday - they were all so polite about it They only wanted to drink one beer each Re: 78XTC's Empire - roof frame 13.5.09 - pics 69May 14, 2009 12:07 pm We're on Williamson Rd, you can't miss us really we have the great wall of China on the back boundary... I did have to modify the 3 girls bedrooms in the Doulton. There was a lot of wasted space in the built ins so we shuffled things a bit. I can't wait to see your bricks, I too will have to do a drive by. I'm so pleased to see how fast you're moving, it's a relief. I showed my husband this thread this morning & he couldn't believe the photos, so much so quick. Signing the loan docs tomorrow then the authority will get faxed then... oh its dragging on... but I wont steal your thread! http://aqua-blog-building.blogspot.com/ ... mostly done, hand over to come...Nov 9th!!!! Re: 78XTC's Empire - Water logged! 70May 21, 2009 10:02 am Like most brisbane folks our house is completely water logged We ventured out to the site yesterday to see how the slab looked with all the water and discovered quite a lot of pooling. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also discovered one of the pallets of bricks had fallen down our 'batter' Hubby forgot to take a pic from the back but you can see where they've fallen from this pic: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I emailed Pl@ntation about the slab as even though our tiler has included a charge for filling the slab where it's uneven he told us it looks like it's more than what he's charged us for and suggested we try to get Pl@ntation to fix it. I'm sure they will tell us it's all "within normal tolerances" (I'm so sick of hearing that sentence) but I'm going to stand my ground this time. We are having 600X600 polished porcelains on the floor downstairs so I dont want a crappy slab On a positive note they had managed to get the guttering and fascia on before the heavens opened on monday (again hubby forgot to take a photo ) and despite being upset that we had to have monument instead of night sky it actually looks quite nice and I'm hoping it might contrast ok with the black roof tiles (fingers crossed). Does anyone know if they have to wait for the timber to completely dry out before they can start the roof? I assumed they would given that wood expands when wet??? Re: 78XTC's Empire - we have a roof! 26.5.09 71May 26, 2009 5:28 am Well we were very excited to see that in one day they managed to do most of the roof and also the windows were delivered!!! The only have the garage and the alfresco roof left to do today Here's the roof (we were concerned about using the black tiles with the monument guttering - but it doesnt look too bad) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here's some of the windows: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our roof tiles: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here's upstairs (no sarking?!!!!!): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here's some pics of my fallen bricks Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The electrician and our air con people are booked in for the 3rd June so it's all coming along well - especially given the wild weather we've had!!! Must be optional for Plantation. Its handy to have it for extra protection. But I wouldnt have seen the leak if we did have it. so lucky for me!!! The sarking blocks a lot of heat. As long as you have good insulation it wont matter. They can charge upwards of 3000 just to put it in and the rolls are only cheap!! HMMM i wonder if can be added later on after handover. I doubt it!
