Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 28, 2009 12:29 pm Hi, we are having our first meeting with our site supervisor shortly and i'm just wondering, are there any questions i should be asking? He said its mainly to put a face to a name and building will hopefully commence in 2 to 3 weeks time. Its my first build so everything is foreign to me. Any tips would be much appreciated! Re: questions for ss 2Apr 28, 2009 1:37 pm That's nice, from what I've read people don't usually meet there SS till they go to construction. Some things to ask may be: How much access will you have to the site during the build? During work hours and after hours. Will he allow you to come and do some cable running? If you're planning to that is. How long he's been in the trade? How many sites has he supervised? Residential / Business? -- This will give you a rough idea of his experience and experience with residential buildings. How long he thinks the build will take? -- Of course the length may vary.. delays etc. If he plans to have any days off / holidays. And if the tradies will be taking days off or holidays. If I think of more i'll put em down ---------------------------------------- Building the PD Lisbon 24 http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#homeviewer/lisbon/24 Blog of our progress. http://lisbon24.blogspot.com/ Homeone build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28665 Re: questions for ss 4Apr 28, 2009 8:45 pm I just wanted to say that your lucky to have a pre-site meeting with your SS. I still haven't met ours and our house is almost at lock-up. Plus he won't answer my calls or ring me back, he will only speak to my DH Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. We have weekly catch ups on an agreed day. He keeps us informed outside of this if there is any good news or issues arise. We discuss each time the time frames and implications along the way. I would ask if you can have their mobile but promise not to abuse this, weekly catchups for five minutes should set the standard for this. Our questions along the way- Please give me a rough estimate of timings. What area do you cover, how many homes do you manage, how often do you go to my site? Do you check the work as you go of each tradesman? Have you worked with these tradesmen before? After lock up stage when can we see progress? Can we have access before first inspection? Can I have any of the tradesmen who worked on your displays? What mix will my brickie do with my bricks? How many coats of paint am I getting? Can I get any extras done through tradies like light fittings, etc? Please check for me when the plaster is done that is all covered off and filled. Have you checked for blockages? What testing have you done on my appliances? Have you found any leakages along the way due to rain or faulty plumbing? Did you measure the slab when it was poured, if not can we do this together?
