Many people make the mistake of assuming their builder is going to take everything into consideration, and look after your interests. Sadly, this is not always true, so you need to apply effort before you even approach a builder. Same good tips for less stress: 1. Research Research Research 2. Become familiar with your councils requirements. You must read their development control plans. 3. Get onto your councils website and sticky beak at other peoples DA applications. You learn so much here alone. 4. Don't be afraid to get independant advice from somewhere like Archicentre 5. An independant building inspector is a must, unless you are an expert yourself. 6. Always take advice at face value. Do your own research to back up their claims. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed.
