Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 29, 2009 11:00 am Hi All, We have our site inspection with our sales consulatant today and plan to sign up to an initial quote and pay the $1k deposit by the weekend. As we are making some structual changes to the plan I have done up my own interpretation of the floor plan and highlighted all the changes we want. I have also listed all the inclusions and addition fro the quote just to ensure it all runs smoothely. I am just wondering if anyone has any final tips?! Also wondering if anyone has decided to do their own carpet/tiles and render? We are looking to do this to reduce our costs but we are not sure it is worth it? Thoughts?! Best of luck for today We are doing all the flooring after handover as it has taken us months to decide and we still have not settled on carpet and timber flooring. Re: M3tricon Site Vistit - FINAL TIPS? 3Apr 29, 2009 3:09 pm Oh really?! Have M done your bathroom tiling for you though? It's my understanding that they have to tile the wet areas before handover as part of the contract so are you just doing the remaining floors after handover? We think we have found one we like at Beaumont tiles and they are linked with M so we are in LUCK! Still not sure on carpet though, there may still be some savings to be had there - we are going to see what studio M can offer and go from there! Thanks Megzy - ps congrats on the handover status Building our FIRST HOME - M3tricon Santorini 29 on 2 acres just West of Warrnambool Re: M3tricon Site Vistit - FINAL TIPS? 4Apr 29, 2009 3:22 pm Yes they will def be doing the wet areas. We also were happy with the tile selection at Beaumont. Handover is still a few months away but we are going to place the orders for flooring now. Re: M3tricon Site Vistit - FINAL TIPS? 5Apr 29, 2009 3:40 pm Check your contract 10x for your changes. With ours they mixed up some points and put them in the wrong bedroom, not a big issue for us, but for others it might be (some works are part of the contract, some are being done through them but seperatly for some HT/wiring). Re: M3tricon Site Vistit - FINAL TIPS? 6Apr 29, 2009 4:00 pm Thanks Hellman - I certainly will I am hoping that if it is all spelled out right we will be okay as we can't afford for the contracts to be delayed uless kevin is so kind as to extend the grant but i HIGHLY doubt it haha! fingers crossed! Some builders are just slow, ours took 3 working days and out plans included adding an alfresco, changing a number of internal and external walls, enlarging the kitchen, etc. Re: M3tricon Site Vistit - FINAL TIPS? 8Apr 29, 2009 7:00 pm Site visit went well. Our site is almost dead flat so will only require a site scrape. HOWEVER a nearby M house that was recently built has a H class slab...any idea of how much this would set us back? Our Sales Consultant said that there is no chance of saying what type of slab we will require as the soil is ever changing in our highly volcanic area! We have also resolved my 5% issue - the sales consultant offered it before we even had to ask for the 5% to be applied to the slab payment YAY! We are also going to push our contract through before the 30th of June and bypass studio M, then add the Studio M additions later on with a variation at no cost to us...thats what he said but I asked him to double check it We will have to pay for the Studio M updgrades out of our own pocket at the final payment but as we are not looking to upgrade much that shouldn't be a problem. YAY exciting!!! I am finally seeing the light at the end of the planning tunnel that leads to another tunnel of the building process Building our FIRST HOME - M3tricon Santorini 29 on 2 acres just West of Warrnambool Thank you so much.
