I feel as if nothing has happened to the house for ages, so haven't posted. My roof trusses went on about May 22, and all they have done is the rendering, ceilings and cornices. I feel as if they have only done about 7 days work in six weeks. Hopefully things will go a bit quicker now. One of the things when we went with our builder, was that the sales guy said they had their own teams, and we didn't have to sit for ages with nothing being done, while the tradesmen did other jobs .... that doesn't seem to hold true from what I have seen!!! Still ... I get a weekly call from my SS, so I suppose I should be grateful!!! Built the Driftwood with C*ollier Homes Moved in 8 November 2009 Slowly getting organised ..... Re: My new house in Madeley (WA) - Render, ceilings and cornices 43Jul 12, 2009 8:40 pm Here are some updated pics. I hadn't realised there is such a gap between the ceiling and wall. I thought the cornice was just there to pretty it up, but there was a large gap ... amazing !!! Home Group WA Monte Carlo Timeline on Page 1 Re: My new house in Madeley (WA) - Tiling in wet areas 47Aug 10, 2009 12:15 am It has been ages since I last posted as I thought nothing much had happened. Now that I look at the thread I see that it has, so here are a few pics. I am at lock up, the doors and door jambs have their first coat, the walls are white rendered, and the kitchen bench is in. The granite top is being delivered this week, and the tiling has started in the wet areas. Quite fun, as I couldn't remember what colours we had chosen (not organised enough to buy a sample tile!!). Here is a stupid step they built into my garage. I complained as it was too narrow for the Australian standard. They have since replaced it. It doesn't look so great, and the tile shop told me they should have just made a larger grouting in the floor tile, so that it lined up. I might complain when I see the tiler tomorrow. And eeuw ... I have just noticed from the photo that the row of border tiles, is not even with the middle of the window. I hope it just looks horrible in the photo, because it didn't seem to offend the eye when we were there. Re: My new house in Madeley (WA) - $250 for tiling mitre cut 48Aug 10, 2009 10:38 am I organised to pay a cashie to my tiler for him to do a mitre cut on my tiles. This was on the advice of my SS who said it is nicer. The tiler couldn't speak English very well, nodded his head and said $250. I agreed stupidly but afterwards went and looked to see exactly how much mitre cutting there needed to be done. Propbably about 20 tiles all up. Is $250 a bit excessive. If they were in my ensuite it probably will irritate me. I will have another good look tonight though. Can I ask how big your block was? Also how large the house is??? We are looking at rather small blocks and want to see what we can squeeze in My block was 490 and I think the house is about 218 (not counting the alfresco and garage). I will have to check on that at home, but that figure rings a bell. I loved the design because it sort of encompasses the alfresco, and also it is large but not too large. There is a display home in Hammond Park but I changed it a bit, especially the ensuite and changed the main bedroom door to 1 instead of the huge 2. (Don't have to have the room so tidy when people come in the front door!!). Built the Driftwood with C*ollier Homes Moved in 8 November 2009 Slowly getting organised ..... So I shouldn't complain about the $250!!! I have bought large 60 x 60 tiles for my splashback (the cheap man's version of a glass splashback!! ) and because the edges are so finely cut you can put them right close to one another with no grouting. Anyway, my tiler said that he wants to put grouting in between because it is better for the tiles and stops it cracking. I presume, if you crack one, then with the other one tightly fitted onto it, it would be like a domino effect, as opposed to a bit of grouting, it would stop the crack going through all?? Has anyone heard about this?? I had wanted it close together so that it looked like glass. Built the Driftwood with C*ollier Homes Moved in 8 November 2009 Slowly getting organised ..... We used to get weekly calls from my SS, so I will have to phone tomorrow and talk to the construction manager who is looking after our SS houses while he is away. He said my house should be finished before he gets back, so that sounds good. He is away for another 3 weeks. Here are some updated pics. The front render. The house is brownish, with a brown roof, so the front door doesn't look so stark in real life as it does in this pic. It does though, look a lot brighter than I imagined when ordering it!! What colour is your render? I didn't see a pic of your bench top yet? or did I miss it? The lines on the floor look a little wonky as well as not lined up the the wall tiles? Or is it just teh photo? So sad when bad things happen to nice tiles! I am visiting my tiler on site to warn him I will have a heart attack if my tiles are not perfect. We paid about $4500 in upgrades so someone will need to sedate me if they are out even a few millimeters. (I need things to line up otherwise it drives me nuts.. bit of an OCD thing i think!!)
