Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 24, 2009 2:02 pm Hi all, well l got told today there is a rebate you can get (this is for victoria not sure of elsewhere!) that if you build and move into your house within 12months of land settlement you get some money from the government, apparently its not much below $100! l rang my conveyers today she confirmed there is such a rebate and they would look into it for me, BONUS figure go nicely for some deco stuff! had anyone else heard of this? does anyone know the exact amount just curious! Re: Anyone heard of this rebate? 3Apr 24, 2009 2:12 pm PnSdreams I've heard of that rebate too. I think it's got to do with taxes paid on our land? I believe it is the stamp duty rebate..ur conveyancer or lawyer should be able to arrange it for you. There are some conditions - the SRO's websire explains how it works: http://www.sro.vic.gov.au/sro/SROWebSite.nsf/taxes_duties%20duty%20concession%20ppr.htm Re: Anyone heard of this rebate? 10Apr 24, 2009 2:46 pm So if our land settled in March 09 and our building construction will complete by the end of this year, we should be able to claim a refund of the stamp duty rebate? Ours won't be much but it's better in my pocket than theirs! Karma - what goes around comes around sooner or later...... When it settles. Also you get the rebate straight away so you jst dont pay the extra tax, but you have to pay it back if you move somewhere else in the first 12 months Cheers Cozmo ______________________________ Building a PD Heywood 29 http://fromevetoeternity.blogspot.com/ Re: Anyone heard of this rebate? 16Apr 24, 2009 7:59 pm all very well in the ES. I guess this is an example of where frame houses are good. We started negotiated to build as soon as our land offer was accepted and before land settlement titles sent out to us. which was in april last year but house is still being built! Formal contracts weren't available to sign until late july. blah.. Somewhere I doubt it would work here if there was such an offer. what a shame though. Wish you all the best.
