Re: NBG do their builders use roof sarking? 2Apr 22, 2009 7:20 am King willy, we are with NBG and our roof has just gone on. They used sarking and and we didn't know they were so was an added bonus Re: NBG do their builders use roof sarking? 3Apr 22, 2009 11:03 am Hi KW We're building with them and it didn't come with sarking. Our builder rang just before colourbond roof was installed and asked if we wanted it (as an extra). At the time I didn't know anything about it and he said it was not compulsory so I said no. I then spoke to a roof plumber mate who highly recommended it so I rang back but they had already installed the roof. My plumber mate said that a whirlybird would suffice as we do not live in a humid area. We have since gone the whirlybird option. Sarking is the like silver paper that is used on your walls. They drape it over your trusses and ensure it doesn't touch your roof. It is supposed to prevent warm air inside your roof condensing on the underside of your roof once the sun goes down at night and your roof (tiles/metal) cools rapidly. With all that condensation, the water then drips onto your ceiling and can cause problems over time. As I said, not too much of a problem in non-humid areas. Whirlybird draws in cooler air from under the eaves and draws out warm roof air. In theory, this would prevent the difference in temperature between outside and inside your roof. Hope that helps Em Re: NBG do their builders use roof sarking? 4Apr 22, 2009 2:28 pm No sarking on our house. I never got offered either. About the time we were at this stage there was a lot of chatter on here about sarking and it was based around tiled roofs so I never really picked up on it. Our builder was all for a whirlybird though to remove moisture. Fi has moved in!! Re: NBG do their builders use roof sarking? 5Apr 22, 2009 10:27 pm Thanks to all I guess that its not standard & will cost extra. I wonder about the other project builders. A whirly Bird how affective as compaired to Sarking??? I would say it would be cheaper. Can anyone tell me what they paid for sarking? Or what it may cost? Thanks people.
