Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 21, 2009 10:24 am Our slab is getting pour today..yeyeye...but the supervisor told me that they will start the frame tomorrow. I always thought that you need a couple of days for the concrete to dry up then start on the frame. Is this normal to start the frame day after slab is poured? Re: Slab pour today and frame goes up tomorrow? Is this normal 2Apr 21, 2009 10:28 am Hi there, We were told the same thing - Slab poured on the Weds and frame to go up on the Thursday. However it poured down with rain all day Thursday so they started the Friday. I thought the same thing, but I figured they know what they are doing more than me! Hope that helps! Is this normal 3Apr 21, 2009 10:38 am I'm no expert. Logically though, if they use chemical anchors, it may be OK. Otherwise it's much too early to bolt down the frame with nails, Dyna bolts or other expanding anchors. Is this normal 5Apr 21, 2009 10:49 am My framing wood was delivered the next day, then 2 days after the slab pour the frame was mapped out and cut. On the third day it was erected and bolted (which took 2 weeks to complete - double storey). I'm pretty sure I read recently about 48 hours curing time before the frame should be bolted on? Is this normal 6Apr 21, 2009 11:22 am Bear in mind that thay need to mark out the walls in pen, then sort and start to cut timber. I would suggest they would be pushing it to do all that in one day. Adrian B Re: Slab pour today and frame goes up tomorrow? Is this normal 7Apr 21, 2009 11:23 am Just to give my 2 cents worth is to get them to wait at least 48hrs or the same thing will happen to your concrete as it did to mine instead of having a nice flat smooth surface it will become poruce and chip away especially in the garage, l built with metricon and still waiting for them to fix it and it's been 8 months... Cheers Chris Re: Slab pour today and frame goes up tomorrow? Is this normal 8Apr 21, 2009 11:31 am I'm pretty sure our engineer recommended to wait 28 days :S Re: Slab pour today and frame goes up tomorrow? Is this normal 9Apr 21, 2009 11:51 am I've been building for 15 years and it is common practice to set the frame out the day after the concrete is poured/rough cut/setout of studs then erection which all that generally takea about 2-3 days depending on the size of the house. If it is pre-fab walls general rule of thumb is two days after the slab goes down, the slab will still be green for a couple of weeks afterwards and doesn't actually reach full strength until approx 30 days Another thing that has to be taken into consideration is what type of finish the slab underwent i:e was it a burnt finish (extra long time spent polishing the surface of the slab with the chopper etc, to create a very hard flat surface) or was it something else. Is this normal 12Apr 21, 2009 8:31 pm My frame was put on the next day but only the timber on the floor like marking the the rooms out. I think from memory it was a day or too later they started erecting the walls. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there This is 100% true.
