Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 21, 2009 11:30 am Hi All Ok thanks for the feedback, I have made some changes. More comments please. Just to note: The car port will be in front of the house with a path to the door. North is against the Home Theater and Family room wall (Kitchen on east wall). The shower is on the left side of the en-suite. The things either end are tiled seats and there will be two shower heads. Curious where is your general linen storage ? is it at the opposite end of the house to the bedrooms ? I remember seeing one display home that had a similar entrance to yours and they had a wall recess built into the wall you look at as you first enter and they had a small bench type table in the recess with a feature plant or painting there. Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 3Apr 21, 2009 1:09 pm I'm guessing that the entrance is the area in the centre to the bottom ? if so it's not a really welcoming entrance. It opens onto a corridor leading only to a corridor and a suggestive hint of bathroom. Also there appears to be no natural light source in the entrance way or the corridor so it's going to be dark and tunnel like even in the middle of the day. I like your storage in the media room and rumpus - nice and deep. The WIR is fine if no person using it loves clothes or has heaps of luggage. I like the Bathroom area - it's bitsy but different Building Upside down house in Wantirna VIC Current Stage: Procrastination... it's just all too hard.... Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 4Apr 21, 2009 8:56 pm looks like there is a linen cupboard next to the vanity outside the toilet, good location, good access to bedrooms and bathrooms from there. That WIR would be plenty big enough for DH and I, our is about that size, maybe we just dont have that many clothes Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 5Apr 22, 2009 8:08 am Do you need a door on the rumpus in that hallway? I think if want to block off the bedrooms you'd be better putting the door down the hallway just past the bathroom... Otherwise when you walk through the house, it's not very inviting not to be able to see the living area's straight away... In the ensuite, I'd move the vanity to the wall under the window. Maybe place a 300mm high window x 1200wide fixed glass up above the vanity mirror for natual light... Where will the master bed sit in the room... The window positioning looks a little odd, it's not centre... Maybe you could put two full length windows 600 or 900 wide either side of the bed... I'd move the storage door off the meals area, and join it with the rumpus room storage. A double door storage give you more access to the large space... Have a think about using larger doors through the house. Standard door size offered by most builders is 820 wide, but for not much more you can go to 870, 920, 770, 720 or 620... It can make a big difference to a house... I'd make the bathroom vanity full length between the wall and the bath... The kids will use that more than the "powder" vanity... I'm not sure the storage in the media room make sense. The door seems to restrict access to the area, and so the void will not be usable... Double 620 doors? or a larger door to enable access to that area... What do you plan on storing in there? Any sidelights on the entrance door? What about a robe for Bedroom 2? It looks big enough to accomadate a 600 deep wardrobe? Have a think about floor finishes? Is it all tiled (except media and bedrooms), or is the rumpus to be carpetted also? Having the rumpus room wall not line up may be a problem for laying carpet, or if you lay tiles, it may be close enough to look odd. If you do move the door, then take the wall right back to match the hallway, that way it's far enough offline to not look odd! What about a window in the bathroom? Electrical Engineer... Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 7Apr 22, 2009 11:14 pm hi there, it's looking even better again love the new open rumpus, will make huge difference to the entry way - two slimline windows in the master was a great idea, so is the double door storage to rumpus & media room...great plan! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 8Apr 22, 2009 11:18 pm Yeah, opening up the rumpus room is the key. The best thing about this house is you can have 3 pool tables. It really doesn't get much better than this! Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 9Apr 23, 2009 6:30 am bigred Yeah, opening up the rumpus room is the key. The best thing about this house is you can have 3 pool tables. It really doesn't get much better than this! Only 1 pool table (and arcade machine). The Home theater will have a front projector but also double as a formal lunge. Cheer one and all. Open for more comments though. Re: Latest floor plans for Mt Barker build - ranch style (Mk 2) 10Apr 23, 2009 7:11 am Looking good Metter... Couple of things... The small nib wall left from removing the rumpus room door in the hallway, the nib on the kitchen side... I'd remove that... Maybe push the master door back into the room a little, in line with the bed 2 wall, otherwise you'll have this little nook that is wasted space. A longer hallway there will open the house a little... What about a sliding door off the family room to out the back also? Only thing is, make it the same size as the meals door... With the master bed doors, it may look a little funny to have french doors when the rest of the house is sliders at the back... I'm not sure what the purpose of having the french doors in the rumpus is... Maybe look at making the two windows in that room 1800mm high, rather than a door... Not sure which way the home theatre is going to be layed out, but i'd swap the location of the rumpus and theatre storage areas... That way the doors aren't so obvious in the rumpus room when you enter the house... Also beaware of the kitchen breakfast bar if you plan on having a cantilever bench.... Little kids running around that corner will knock their head everytime! I'd suggest a full panel on each end to prevent that! Possibly make the kitchen window larger... I'd almost make all the windows/doors in the kitchen/meals/family area the same size... 2100mm... The bedroom windows look like they are 1500 wide... I'd go for bigger on those... 1800mm minimum, possibly even 2100... With the rumpus room window/door combination, I'd centre it about the room internals, like the home theatre is... With bathrooms, have a think about where you will hang the towels... Sorry if I'm throwing so many little things at you... I've been in the process of drafting my own plans for the last 2 years, and keep making slight improvments along the way. I think you've got a good workable layout that can service a family well!
