What about darker bricks and light roof? Then most of the sun is hitting the lighter surface and may be slightly cooler! I took some pictures as I was thinking of this colour scheme initially. If I have some time later this evening (when I've finished going through my contracts) then I'll post them up for you! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: What about Dark Roof and Light Bricks ;) 4Apr 20, 2009 9:03 pm Agree Annie re darker being hotter but if you have good ceiling insulation then the heat shouldn't come into the house. We had a very dark grey roof in Brisbane with good insulation and sarking and only ceiling fans inside, our house was always cool. We have a charcoal roof now and had a fair bit of hot weather after we moved in 3-4 months ago. Upstairs was fairly cool with the evap cooling running. Ceilings didn't feel hot. I get the afternoon sun on the front of my place and you can feel the heat coming off the bricks/render at night after a hot day. I think good/proper insulation is the key. I must have just met too many people with too little insulation! I won't say anymore about dark roofs and will just enjoy the photos of all your dark-roofed houses! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! I haven't actually seen you write about it before Here in Vic we have to have insulation as part of the 5* rating. Do you have that in WA? Someone liveing in, say, Tasmania, would have different priorities. Re: What about Dark Roof and Light Bricks ;) 10Apr 21, 2009 3:11 pm annie.s Dark roofs are very hot!
