Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 20, 2009 1:50 pm I saw the light bricks and roof thread and it prompted me to ask about dark bricks and a dark roof. we're thinking of having dark browny/blacky/blue-y with redish highlights (! lets just say, dark ) bricks (Daniel Robertson London Blend) with a charcoal roof, and i guess light windows and downpiping and garage, with a light-medium feature render .... will this be ridiculous? Re: What about dark bricks and a dark roof? anyone done that? 2Apr 20, 2009 2:01 pm Nope - lovely! We have Hawthorn bricks, with Woodland Grey gutters and fascia, and charcoal (Soho nights, I think it was) roof tiles. We have off white mortar and Winterhaven painted windows, Time Capsule (v similar to Dune) render, and Dune garage to lift it, so it's not really dark - I like dark bricks, but I don't like houses that, overall, look dark. So, I like what you're suggesting! I think when there's a contrast somewhere it makes all the difference! Gorgeous! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: What about dark bricks and a dark roof? anyone done that? 6Apr 20, 2009 2:19 pm Well we have redd-ish bricks (Austral Canterbury) which are kind of dark, with Woodland Grey roof, looks good to me!! If you are worried though, break it up with white/off-white mortar and/or light coloured windows. Re: What about dark bricks and a dark roof? anyone done that? 7Apr 20, 2009 2:24 pm good to see i haven't gone out of limb here.. the photo sure helps! i can actaully see it, and.... it works! donuts: i was thinking off white mortar too. the natural has a yellow tinge to it and just wouldnt look right in this colour scheme. there's a definate blue hint to the bricks and the render will be a light blue-y colour i think one thing i was particularly unsure about was guttering.. should it be the light colour too, like the garage and windows (off-white i'm thinking) or should it match the roof colour? Re: What about dark bricks and a dark roof? anyone done that? 8Apr 20, 2009 2:37 pm I'm thinking it will look great, cos we're doing the dark/dark thing too We have chosen Barramundi (very dark, but not black) roof tiles and a chocolate brown coloured brick, and we have offset those with off-white mortar, a dark beige(caramel?) render to one half, and the gutters, windows & garage door are all a light beige / cream. i have been a little worried about the gutters being too light against the roof tiles and bricks too, but I think it will be just fine! I would love to see how it would look on a photoshop drawing or something like that, so I can stop thinking about it!! Building with PD - Regent 23 in Point Cook WE'RE IN!!! Landscaping! You could do the guttering to match the roof, then the fascia and downpipes in the lighter colour ? brittany your facade looks fantastic! Re: What about dark bricks and a dark roof? anyone done that? 12Apr 20, 2009 2:54 pm Your house looks great Brittany Is it a Buckingham - NBG by any chance? Beebie, We have darker bricks - Jarrah, Charcoal roof and then everything woodland grey - gutters, fascia, windows, downpipes, garage door and portico render. Render around the study is Dune. I've noticed that half of us in our street have the same guttering and fascia colour and half has two colours. I guess it depends on personal preference. To answer your question, no, it will not be ridiculous! It will be stunning, but I'm totally Daniel Robertson biased! My house will be Hawthorn Tan blend (purply with touches of reddy orange, but fairly darkish!) with off white mortar. I have charcoal roof tiles with lightish (paperbark) gutters, fascias and downpipes (not yet). My render colour will be Earth Kiss, which is slightly deeper than the Paperbark (no sign of that yet!)
