Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 19, 2009 1:15 am I was told today that the house plan we finalised will need a parapet wall as my garage wall is going to sit right on the boundary. If anyone is building a house with parapet wall can you share the photo in this forum. I am trying to find information on how it will look like before I proceed further with my contract process. I have no idea how it will look like, so prefer to see an image beforehand. Thanks in advance... Re: Parapet Wall 3Apr 19, 2009 1:52 pm OMG I am sorry if I offend, but if my neighbour did that I would be horrified. I am one for needing my own space ( I guess that is why we chose to build on 10 acres) and with that wall right there, and not even enough room to continue the fence, to me looks like they are imposing. -Sha Re: Parapet Wall 4Apr 19, 2009 2:07 pm These walls are pretty common in suburban blocks in housing developments in WA - we've had one on both of the houses we've built. I wouldn't do it for any other area of the house other than a garage, and my preference would be that the neighbour's garage would also be on that side - you'd just have garage next to garage so less noise disturbance that way. We are doing it for the garage and neighbour's garage will be on the same side as our garage. So, It should be ok I guess. My builder is charging $596 for it. Re: Parapet Wall 6Apr 19, 2009 5:25 pm Sorry, excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a parapet wall and a normal bricked wall? It looks the same to me Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Parapet Wall 7Apr 19, 2009 7:18 pm I was wondering the exact same thing wonderland....... Re: Parapet Wall 8Apr 19, 2009 7:33 pm The guttering basically sits above the the brickwork so that it doesn't hang over the edge as it normally would. That's how two can be built right next to each other. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. The simple way to do the parapet is to have a gable ended roof and the wall continues above the line of the tiles. both option are fine for building on a zero lot boundary. Re: Parapet Wall 12Apr 19, 2009 8:34 pm See this is why you shouldn't listen to me! Bananas, this is a parapet above the garage/office? Sorry about the pic quality. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-02-26_12-21-33_26022009597-1.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Parapet Wall 14Apr 20, 2009 1:48 am Some councils are very firm on this and in my area fruitty's garage wouldn't be passed. i know that my council are very strict on it being a proper parapet wall on the boundary which sounds the same as your council mishti, just the fact that you have been told it must be a parapet so you would be looking at something like britz's photo for your garage. Re: Parapet Wall 15Apr 20, 2009 11:44 am Thanks for the photos. From the photos from Joles and Brytz, I gather that the front view of my garage will have its roof hidden with the parapet wall. Can anyone please confirm? I am not sure whether it is going to look good on my facade. Re: Parapet Wall 17Apr 20, 2009 3:17 pm Its basically your roof over the garaage will become a brick gable end rather than a hip end with the bricks extending above the line of the roof tiles. I'm pressuming without seeing the plans unless like in the pics your going with a flatter style roof construction. Both those pics have boxed gutter type arrangements and i think yours will be alot simpler than that. Agree, Riviera from Clarendon looks beautiful. I've seen one with a light-colored bricks and just a bit of molding (in my neighborhood). It's definitely overpriced. I'm… 10 5002 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
