Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 17, 2009 11:45 pm Hi everyone, This forum has been absolutely amazing. Quite apart from how helpful and friendly you folk are, I've learned SO much in the last few weeks. Things I hadn't even considered that I'd want or need in our new house. Things like ducted vacuuming (oh that vac pan!) and vented locks to sliding doors/windows. So it got me thinking... I don't know what I don't know. What are some of the things that you upgraded or added that were not standard? Particularly things (like the above) that someone might not ordinarily think of? Thanks in advance! Re: What extras should we be thinking about? 3Apr 18, 2009 12:01 am Thanks Bam. Good idea. I've only just started my list but am worried I've missed something which will seem obvious later. Knowing my luck I'll stumble upon the thread after we've signed the contract... We also ask the question to our supervisor. 1. Concreting outside house. 2. Extra sink at the garden to wash things outside especially after bbq. 3. Consider better insulation(wall, window or door, roof) 4. Better carpets 5. Door locks. 6. Change carpet to timber flooring etc. Re: What extras should we be thinking about? 6Apr 18, 2009 10:13 am Jolie, it's very annoying when you see the high ceilings as standard in pretty much all display homes, but they don't come standard with the homes! It was just fluke that we remembered to ask. Once we realised that, we asked our CSC to send us a list with all the things in the display home that were not included as standard in our house (including costings). Thankfully the only other thing we really wanted from the display was tiles to the ceilings in the bathrooms. Otherwise, all those extras came to more than $100k!! smallOne - I know that you mean. We're still picking things up we hadn't realised about. Things that weren't even in the display homes or which we won't be able to change or do later (like the concreting outside) - so we don't know what sort of things we're meant to be thinking about... Thanks for your list. Some good ideas in there.
