Hi guys,
Just wondering how much I should expect to pay for a TV aerial? Haven't rung anyone yet, so thought I'd see if anyone here is willing to share the price they paid?
Cheers

Re: TV Aerial - how much? 3Apr 17, 2009 8:30 pm I got a local guy to do it and it cost $260 which included mounting the antenna and wiring it in to a 5 way splitter. I didn't need a booster but I know they are extra. I could have gotten an antenna very cheap as I work in the industry however I simply couldn't be bothered sorting out the mounting and flashing to make sure it doesn't leak (walking around a tiled roof isn't much fun). If you want to buy one and install it yourself it depends on where you live as the size and number of dipoles will vary depending on the reception you are getting. Best to ring someone like Hills Antennas and they can tell you over the phone the model and price. Re: TV Aerial - how much? 4Apr 17, 2009 8:42 pm in my local paper, west melb, I'm sure they were all quoting $190 - installed... Annie A thankful person is a happy person. Re: TV Aerial - how much? 6Apr 17, 2009 9:32 pm I'm a bit scared about how much this might cost us. we have a standard aerial here but many people in town have these maxed out mega aerials. We've been told were we are building is better. Re: TV Aerial - how much? 7Apr 17, 2009 9:54 pm Thanks guys! Gives me a good idea. C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Optional Variations: 1 x Supply & install digital ready Clipsal antenna as per brochure. $ 305.00 ....for 2-storey $410.00 PLEASE NOTE: Amplifier not included. When required, installation will only proceed with client approval. Amplifier cost is $150.00. Quote was about $400 from our builder. Im confident I can get one in with junction box, bracket and cable for well under $100. I am however having the builder install 2 TV points and leaving the ends floating around in the roof where I will be putting it to make life easier. I think $300 is fairly reasonable for an antenna install by a builder. To give you an idea amplifiers cost around $50-$60 for a mast head amp. http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.store ... We need both as we won't be buying digital tvs for a while. This seems ridiculously expensive Anyone in the shire get a better quote ? Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: TV Aerial - how much? 19Jul 01, 2009 9:35 pm The varied quotes tend to be more to do with how good or bad the reception in your area is. The further away from the transmission tower you are the bigger the antenna you will need. Also in some cases if you are very close to the transmission tower but below it (such as at the base of a mountain) then your reception will actually be coming from somewhere else as the signal will be going straight over the top of you. Analogue and digital broadcasts are generally from the same site as they have combined the signals to transmit from the one antenna. To a lesser degree the variations may account for a booster or perhaps if you are in a two story house they may charge a bit more for access.
As other have said, you do not need a different antenna for digital - any antenna that works on analogue will do. In some cases you may need slightly more gain if you originally had a weak signal but that is all. BTW if you are buying a Hills Antenna you can ring them and tell them your postcode and they will let you know what model you need. It's quite funny some of the BS that these antenna companies spin. I work for a company that has provided the digital broadcast antennas as well as the waveguide combiners used for the rollout in Australia and this idea of having digital vs analogue antennas for receiving TV has the engineers scratching their heads... 7 11992 I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts.
