Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Experience with National Builders 21Jul 26, 2007 11:11 am If you tell NBG which area you are planning to build, they will be able to get back to you on which builder would be assigned to the building of your home (give them a day or 2 to get back to you as they would prolly have to check with HQ on which builder would be assigned to your project).
Thank you for the info on the tiles, ceramic wares etc...i will definitely have a look at it soon. Now we have to wait two to three weeks for contracts and then we get to go shopping - although I'm sure it will be more like Brittany, I have paid $500 to get quote on Buckingham 36E we are adding loundge room at the front and moving garage aside (my block is 19.2m wide) roughly sales guys said it would be about 20K and as you said, we are also extending pantry room and shortening powder room. what is the final quote they have given and what extra have you added, pls? Re: Experience with National Builders 24Aug 01, 2007 5:54 pm So far we're up for $ 314,000. We had some horrendous site costs. Things we've altered are
- remote control garage - reduced terrace and built in a bar and cellar off home theatre included shelving and sink - decreased powder room and increased pantry - waterproofed balcony above alfresco room - increased shower size in ensuite - added the spa package to the ensuite (we got evap cooling instead) - gas point to alfresco area - acoustic noise batts around home theatre - extra phone point upstairs - two extra television points - two flood lights for backyard - junction box to alfresco area (for any later changes) - installation cost for fans (I have to buy fans myself) - flywire doors for all sliding doors - flywire to all windows - tiles to hallway and dining area (as well as wet areas) - carpet to rest of house On the yet to do list - remove downlights which come standard are replace with fittings that will take compact fluros (exception being home theatre) - dimmers in home theatre - reinforce walls where plasma and projector will go - upgrade bricks and I'm tempted to go with flush white mortar (I don't like any of the standard bricks) - upgrade the heating to zoned areas - put in some extra fans - I want drawers in the kitchen so will upgrade this if not standard - double glaze windows - water point for fridge The yet to do list is growing...... Re: Experience with National Builders 25Aug 01, 2007 9:13 pm brittany So far we're up for $ 314,000. We had some horrendous site costs. How much is the site cost in $314? also what are the major once? balcony? cellar and bar? flooring? sorry asking to much, as I am waiting for my quote can't wait to see what I can get in my budget of $315K. thanks DM Re: Experience with National Builders 26Aug 02, 2007 5:00 pm $49000 is site costs - we have a p class site with over three metres front to back - and slope also side to side. There are also considerable trees on the slope. We could get someone else to come in and do the retaining walls which would probably be cheaper - but we're concerned that the builder might not be satisfied with someone else job..... yadda yadda
The balcony is $16500 Bar and Cellar $6600 Tiles and Carpet $12000 Ensuite Spa upgrade $ 3000 Re: Experience with National Builders 27Aug 02, 2007 10:08 pm Brittany,
Is the cellar you are building an underground one? Is that using some of the slope in the block or does the whole thing need to be dug out? An underground cellar would probably be on our "wish list", though may not be feasible. Now, we are bit relaxed otherwise otherday when my wife looked at you post about $314K she was in shock. Now given that $49K is site cost, we bit relaxed. But still number doesn't make sense unless I am missing somethings. As per your breakdown total cost for all upgrade is $87000 hence base price should be $227,000 (Your Final total so far is $314,000) but advertised base price for Buckingham36E is $236,000 isn't it? or did you get some credit from that base price? thanks, DM. Re: Experience with National Builders 30Aug 04, 2007 9:14 am The advertised base price is $ 230,900 but we got in before the July price rise so paid less than that. We also decreased the width of our house and got credit for that. Here is an update/feedback. I paid initial deposit $500 to do soil test and initial quotation. At the time, sales rep said they will get back to me in 14 days. Today its already been 6 weeks and no contact yet. After 2 weeks I got a mail stating that it will be ready on early next month. Hence i called sales rep. that if you can't even deliver initial quote which you promised in 14 days then I don't want to continue with you guys. He said 14days are 14 BUSINESS days and it will be ready next week. Since then its already 2 weeks but no contact yet. Yesterday got message from sales rep that stuff is ready and someone from head office will call me to book an appointment but no contact yet. lets see.. wait n watch for an update on appointment. thanks DM. I'd ask for my money back and look elsewhere! Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Experience with National Builders 35Aug 29, 2007 4:28 pm Doesn't sound good!! Our contracts were due this week - I rang yesterday and requested they be mailed so I can go through them and then meet with them with any questions. Hopefully they will be in the mail tomorrow! Ok got call from head office to book an appointment, and she said when are available, we have spot at next week wednesday other following week. I said, 1) You said deadline is already gone, and now I am not interested anymore and send it to my address I will have look and if I will have any question I will get back to you. 2) You are giving me appointment in your time not my time. She replied, "we don't give or send our quotation out and please don't tell this to me, I am just trying to book your quotation appointment" I said well then ask the sales rep to give me a call. waiting for his call, lets see. DM Re: Experience with National Builders 37Jan 24, 2008 3:03 pm We are also building with NB in Greenvale (VIC). Just had the quote presentation. 234k base price, 300k total. I am going to subtract the carpets as the quality didnt seem any good. I dont know too much about carpets though, but is it possible to get anything decent for $38/square metre? The builder said that their medium quality of carpet is $45 and their best quality is $65 or $70 (cant remember which). Is this a good price. Both medium and good quality samples appeared acceptable to me. Re: Experience with National Builders 38Jan 24, 2008 3:32 pm We got booked in today for our colour appointment and the builder seems all systems go trying to get us started. Today was a good day. I was starting to fret over christmas. We had to have a second soil test which took forever because of christmas. Off to a boral display to look at bricks on advice from the girl who books you in at National Builders. Fi has moved in!! Re: Experience with National Builders 39Feb 03, 2008 3:11 pm brittany Also be aware that National Builders contract out to local builders. Ask them who would get your job and do your research on the builder. I did and felt much more confident. Can't hurt! Hi Brittany, If you don't mind me asking...we're also building in a north western suburb...whereabouts are you? we're in Hillside (Stockland's parks of bellevue hills)... Do you have any idea how I can get a list of NBG's builders in that area? I am awaiting NBG to get back to me of completed Buckinghams in that area...in the meantime...any names of local builders in that area (whether or not they have built the buckingham) would be much appreciated. Many thanks in Advance, Alison Re: Experience with National Builders 40Feb 03, 2008 8:35 pm Carmel in the office should be able to help you with a list of local builders. Harrass your sales rep for completed houses in the area. I sent you a message back - sorry I didn't see yours! Fi has moved in!! I apologise for any confusion, but your understanding is correct.
