Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 14, 2009 9:54 pm Hi Guys, Building a Regatta 288 and have my final color appointment, i am a bit worried because the family room at the back of the house i would like to turn into a theater room, but the problem is i am uncertain how i would block the room off, i would like to be able to block the room off completely but also would like a large opening for when i don't want it closed, this way the open plan living gives the house the illusion of being larger because the floor just keeps going. Has anyone got any ideas? The red line is where i would like to block it off Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Henley Regatta 288 Floor Plan 3Apr 14, 2009 10:02 pm joles Maybe a series of bi-fold doors that fold to each side? The room can then be completely open or completely closed. I agree!! Bi fold to each side would look nice. Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! We've got a wall with double glazed doors opening into it. "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. The issue is a structural one more than anything. You will have to check with Henley as to whether that wall is a load bearing one and whether it can in effect be removed. It hopefully won't be a problem from looking at your plan, but whether Henley let you is another matter. Check with them. Hopefully it will be ok. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. So we have double opening doors in the centre and a wall cut out on either side of the doors, which will have plantation shutters inside. Tip - get the builder to put in standard doors and then replace them later, it's heaps cheaper and you only have to do a straight swap of the doors as the frame and hinges are already in place Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. We asked Masterton to extend the walls in a little bit on either side and then install sliding doors so that when they're pulled open, there's no obstruction from the doors. From memory the cost we were quoted was only a couple of hundred dollars. Good luck with your build. We wanted similar thing to open and close when ever we wanted and glass door. Just signed Tender, unfortunately we cant have cavity sliding door with glass, so we decided to go with hinged door with glass total cost for turning rumpus to family with doors was around $1300. It will be good to be in touch, do you have blog? I should create one soon. We are building in Melbourne west.
