Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 14, 2009 12:53 am Hi Guys, We had our frame delivered last week, very much to our excitement. It was meant to start going up straight away however the massive amounts of rain we are currently receiving have halted all progress. Our frame(PRE-FABRICATED) is sitting in about 3 inches of water and mud as has been like this for the last 4 days. The weather report shows no signs of this rain letting up for at least another 4-5 days. Will this be REALLY BAD for the timber????? Im worried when it finally dries it may warp. When they delivered the roof trusses they were propped up by other bits of timber so the frame wasnt in the mud. However, the main parts of the frame are saturated and festering away in the mud How bad is this, Should the SS be doing something about this?? Im really worried Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! Im really worried OMG - I was just thinking about this and then I opened this forum and saw your post. Our pre-fab frame is scheduled to arrive TOMORROW and NOTHING has been done on our block. They were meant to be at frame stage by the end of this week. But this rain just wont stop - so I'll be waiting with baited breath to see the responses. I think I might just call the SS anyway and see what's happening with the frame. I knew the heavens would open the moment we were ready to go! (Actually I believe it is a good idea to have your own BI during the whole build process) My frame got very wet before frame up stage, and it turned out okay, but it was not prefab. Re: Rain ruining my frame??????HELP 7Apr 14, 2009 1:40 pm nomad The frames should be on bearers but it sounds like they have just put them on the ground. A bit of rain wont effect them apart from a little bit of swelling which just means the walls might take a bit longer to straighten. The 3 inches of rain and mud are a little bit of a concern but as its only been 4 days i wouldn't be too worried, worst case they remake the frame on the bottom of the stack. I'd much rather the frames sitting in the rain than 40 degree days but over that short amount of time structurally there is no harm. Thanks for your comment:) I spoke to the SS ( i was stressing and couldnt wait so I called )and he said that even with the current weather conditions, and it sitting in the mud, it will still be ok provided it doesnt sit there for more than a few weeks. He said that they will hopefully ( weather permitting) get theb framers there early next week. crossed fingers They were orig scheduled to be onsite late last week. Thanks Stu, I was going to get an independent inspection done pre-plaster. Do you think I should accept their certificate and wait and get my own inspection pre-plaster??, or get one at frame stage aswell?? Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!!
