NEWSFLASH - $8,000 Government Solar Rebate Ends Today
http://www.energymatters.com.au/index.p ... cle_id=467
According to a joint press release from Ministers Penny Wong and Peter Garrett, the Australian Government will today release the final legislation for the expanded Renewable Energy Target (RET) which will allow for the new 'Solar Credits' program to replace the existing Solar Homes and Communities Plan (SHCP) from today onwards.
To say this is an unexpected turn of events would be somewhat an understatement - the announcement has been a total surprise for the industry and consumers alike. The SCHCP solar rebate was not due to end until June 30 and the final details of the Solar Credits program are still not known, leaving the sector ill-prepared for the inevitable influx of enquiries from customers confused about rebate status.
While the Solar Credits scheme will be open to many more Australians, it's understood the program will be less generous than the SHCP rebate.
According to the statement, completed applications for the Solar Homes and Communities Plan which have already been sent, or are sent by today, Tuesday 9 June, will be accepted for assessment, while all new installations of small-scale solar, wind and hydro systems will be eligible for Solar Credits from today.
Details are still scant at this time - please bookmark this page as we'll be updating this post frequently throughout the day as new information comes to hand regarding the final details of the Solar Credits program, the reasons and the wider implications of today's shock announcement.
