I've just read through your thread briefly and you have had such a long wait to get to this point. You have been so patient. You must be so excited now to see action. Hopefully now things will fly along for you. I really like your house design. It seems really spacious. Can't wait to see it all come together. They worked yesterday and most of today and then the storm hit - and rain is forecast for the next four days. I know I should be happy about the progress with the drainage, but they dug up all the dirt around the house and deposited it on the slab. And the backhoe was driving back and forth over the slab all day. So my beautiful pristine slab is covered in mud! LOL (No, I really am glad about the progress... ) (But my slab!!!) The first time I saw the digger on the slab I was mortified!!! Anyway fingers crossed for an improvement on the weather later next week and a frame delivery!! Re: Building the Santorini Grande with Masterton - SLAB!! 89Feb 09, 2010 4:49 pm We've unexpectedly received an amended copy of our plans. Unexpected because we didn't ask for any changes (apart from some minor fix ups which were yet again missed in these plans) and we certainly weren't advised that changes were required. So after scouring the plans we couldn't figure out what the changes were until I called our Construction Coordinator. She did some investigating and called us back and it turns out that our hob around our bathtub in the main bathroom has been reduced by around 300mm so that they could include a closed in aircon void. To say that I'm annoyed is an understatement. One of the primary features I loved about our bathroom is the spacious hob. Now, the bath is wedged between the wall and the aircon void with not much room on either side and the window has had to be repositioned to accomodate the change. Our CC suggested we speak with the Site Supervisor to see if we can have it changed if we're not happy with it. Let's hope they can address it soon because we're expecting frame delivery any day and I don't want to have to deal with repositioning the window once the windows frames are in. They made some changes to ours to in regards to our bulkhead in the kitchen and sent us the amended plans which trust me it took forever to find what the changes were. It then created a stuff up with the frame as the carpenters didn't get the amended copies. It seems like a pretty big design floor pretty late in the day. Surely they would have figured it out a lot sooner. They've built your design before have they not? Re: Building the Santorini Grande with Masterton - SLAB!! 92Feb 09, 2010 7:59 pm Hi Lizzy, That really sucks! Having a quick look at your plans, could they not put the dropdown box into bed 3 rather than the bathroom? We spent alot of time (and paid alot of extra money) to sort out the locations of the dropdown boxes for the aircon - you think they'd have the designs sorted by now when they've built so many of them! I'd have thought they'd have sorted out the drop box locations by now as well. Considering that the approved plans have all the drop boxes already located - but this is an additional one for some reason. I don't mind if it's in the bathroom - in fact, there is a perfect spot for it just after you walk in the door. This would mean they move the vanity further inward so that it actually sits directly opposite the shower, which would make more sense. My husband has spoken to our Site Supervisor who will look at the plans tonight and call him tomorrow to work through a resolution if possible. One good thing that came out of the conversation - we have confirmation that our frame is going up this week. Yay! When we saw the Aircon guy at the colour room session, He gave us some options on where we wanted the void, Ie in the bedroom and reduce the bedroom size or in the bathroom hob or etc. We chose the bathroom hob, but in hindsight the location you have mentioned just at the entry and move the basin in a little sounds like a better location. So you are not the only one. Santorini Grande Executive Re: Building the Santorini Grande with Masterton - SLAB!! 95Feb 10, 2010 9:45 am Thanks Emo. I've just realised that if we do move it next to the vanity we'll end up with a little corridoor leading into the bathroom. Don't like it but I think I can live with it better than in the hob. The thing that annoys me is that we went through the plan in great detail with the airconditioning guy and worked out where all the voids would go. There is already a void in the WIR to Bedroom 2 which is right next to the bathroom. I'm most annoyed that we weren't notified or consulted about the change, we just got a new set of plans in the mail with an "Amended" stamp and a "with compliments" slip - not even a covering letter explaining what or why. Also... does the void lead to a vent in the ceiling below in the same location? If so... the location next to the hob will put a vent just above my pantry doors in the kitchen. If it's moved just inside the bathroom doorway, the vent will be closer to the middle of the kitchen, above the island bench which seems to make much more sense from an efficiency perspective. Of course, I'm just speculating on this... it could have nothing to do with the location of the ceiling vent. Anyway... I'm flogging a dead horse. The SS is meant to call my husband soon so we'll see what happens. In regards to the location of the vent it depends on which way the joists supporting the first floor run, as the ducting can run in parallel to it once it goes thru the floor. From the looks of it, your joists will run front to back [thin green lines] (rather than left to right) across the kitchen and family room, this will allow the ceiling vent to be moved forward or backwards [thick green lines] directly in line with where it goes through the floor (hope this makes sense). http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss214/MrsRose_photos/airconducting.jpg Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience - Dilbert View Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19733 Contract signed 14Sept Slab 30Sept Bricks laid 1Dec Lock up 26Feb Keys 10Jun Re: Building the Santorini Grande - First floor frame up! 98Feb 11, 2010 5:22 pm Thanks Mrs Rose. That makes perfect sense. So regardless of where the void is, the vent can actually be placed somewhere along the middle in the kitchen. Let's hope the void can be moved too... we have a meeting with the SS on Monday morning to discuss it. Now, another dilemma. We got a call from the colour room today to say we hadn't selected the colour of the barback on the kitchen island. We assumed it would be the colour of our kitchen cupboards but they can't use the polytec createc because it doesn't curve so we need to pic a laminex colour. I'm thinking the Matt Micro which is the colour of our kickboards and pretty close to our benchtop colour, but not sure yet. The frame was completed around a week and a half ago but there are still four front windows that need to be installed. They've been sitting in the "garage" for over a week and we're wondering when they'll be put in. The bricks have now been delivered so I'm assuming it won't be long. On the aircon void sage, we talked through a few options with the SS and the only option that removes the void from the bathroom and gives adequate access to the Rumpus Room ceiling is in the bedroom next door. So it looks like we'll have to put a pillar into the corner of Bedroom3. Not ideal but I think it's a better option that cutting into the bathtub hob. The window has already been installed based on the void being in the bathroom but the SS has assured us that it will be moved into the original position and he has already instructed the plumber to do the plumbing based on the original plans. Good news. So hopefully the window will be moved at the same time as the front windows will be installed. Since bricks are onsite, along with a great big pile of sand, we are assuming it will be soon. I desparately want to ask SS when that will be but husband's view is that we should only call SS when we have a problem.
