Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Santorini Grande: WE"RE IN!! 361Oct 20, 2010 1:15 pm Hi everyone!! Thank you so much for all your well wishes and so sorry I've been out of action on the forum for so long! It's been a bit frantic with packing up and cleaning the rental home and moving our stuff across and unpacking. That last one is a killer and I reckon will take us quite a while! We're very happy in our home. Love it!! Photos might be a while in coming though as we're inundated with boxes at the moment. Thank goodness for council clean up - hopefully we'll get rid of a good chunk of empty boxes and IKEA packaging. We've had a few issues since we moved in... our bathtub leaked so the plumber had to come out to reconfigure the pipes. We've since discoverd one of the toilets leaks as well but that can wait for the 90 day maintenance report. The splashback tiles on our island are cracked. We noticed it the day when all our appliances were installed so we're not sure if it was one of the installers putting something on the benchtop (there island is two tiered so there's a smaller stone benchtop above the splashback tiles) or whether it's just the weight of the benchtop itself but that will go in the report as well. The cavity sliding doors into our rumpus room are misaligned so if you pull them all the way out one of them swings out of the cavity so hopefully that will be fixed as well. Btw, Mastertonians: the 90 day maintenance period starts from the date of your PCI inspection! Just so you know as we were quite suprised by that. The brick-colour issue is still an issue. PGH have come out and done a sample section where they've applied a water based stain on a few bricks to match the colours up and it makes a huge difference. Just waiting now for them to do the whole job. Our landscaping is mostly done. We're just waiting on a sunny day for our concretor to seal the concrete driveway. We've got our clothesline! We still need a mailbox though... and blinds. So we're getting there! Thanks to everyone for being such wonderful companions during our build and for taking such an interest. I'll be back soon with pics. Now... off to catch up on everyone's threads!! Did you get you occupational cert yet ? or you get it after you do the landscape and drive way ? Re: Building the Santorini Grande: WE'RE IN!! 363Oct 20, 2010 2:58 pm congrats Lizzy! Really nice to hear that you are in and *mostly* OK. Those fix up jobs sound annoying but not structural / major. Thanks for the tip on the 90 day period - I would have expected from Keys... ps: I don't suppose you have time to pop in to the BBQ this weekend? All the reports etc were compiled before our driveway was done so this didn't seem to hold them back. But it took them around 2-3 weeks to issue the certificate and we got our driveway done in the meantime. Hi Sunshine T! Yes, mostly okay. There are a few other niggling and annoying things which will go on the list but thanfully nothing structural (that we've noticed!). The floor tiles don't seem perfectly smooth and I can feel some rough patches but I tested the floor by walking around in stockinged feet for a day and no snags or rips so I'm taking that as a good sign. LOL. Unfortunately, can't make the BBQ! We have a Christening to go to so we're out of action all day. Hope you have a great time! Would have been wonderful to meet you. There will likely be another one in Jan / Feb (when MrsRose can come), so keep an eye out. Hey that test of walking around in stockings is a great idea! I would NEVER have thought to look under the doors like you and MrsRose did - all excellent tips. Hope all the things get rectified soon... You may not have read my thread, but we have decided on good old PGH Cement in the end (So I was interested to hear that you got them to stain some of the bricks). T ps: Keep in touch and keep us posted SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: Building the Santorini Grande: WE'RE IN!! 366Oct 20, 2010 7:02 pm Congrats on your selection!! I read your comment about it on another thread and am about to go catch up properly on your thread. I love our Cement bricks, I think you'll be happy. Re our brick colour issue, apparently it's not an uncommon problem as houses get bigger and building sites get smaller. They only deliver one storey's worth of bricks at a time because there's not enough room to store all of them. So despite the fact that all our bricks were apparently the same batch number, the first storey bricks are different to the second storey bricks. The bottom floor is darker with more pitting. They've been able to match the colour with the stain pretty much exactly but they can't do anything about the pitting on the face of the brick. Fortunately it's not too obvious unless you're looking very closely. SunshineT Hey that test of walking around in stockings is a great idea! Good luck with everything! BTW, was it you that not so long ago asked me about our driveway ... well, can you recommend your concretor !?!?! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
