Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2009 10:06 am I would like a stand alone toilet and not have it in the main bathroom. However I think it should have a hand basin as well. I have come up with a design for my house and I can't figure out how to get a seperate toilet with a hand basin into my design so I must decide if I should combine the bathroom and toilet or have them seperate. Now, here are my circumstances. The houseis in the country and I will be on tank water so I have done away with the bath. The bathroom will have a walk in shower and vanity basin. It is a 3 bedroom house and I will be living there on my own with no plan for kids. This will only be used by guests. Please cast your vote based on my circumstances. If you are living by yourself it shouldnt matter if you have a seperate toilet or not (not like you're bothering anyone?). I know when planning a house you should look at resale value but if you're going to live somewhere for 5 years or more you want it to be comfortable and how you want it (thats why we build isnt it?). Although I think resale wise the combined bathroom is much better anyway.. Shame you cant fit a bath tho (although very water wise). -------------------------------------------------------- Building in Highlands Craigieburn Status: Building the Laundryless 25.5: Slab Complete Re: Seperate Toilet or not 3Apr 12, 2009 11:02 am I'm not worried about the bath too much. I'd never use it. It's one of those things that people say, "What about when you try and sell?" I plan on being there for a while and maybe there will be other people like me who want to buy a house with out a bath. I will have a seperate ensuite so this entire area will only be used by guests. Cool.. If you dont use a bath why have one.. The all in one option works great then I think. -------------------------------------------------------- Building in Highlands Craigieburn Status: Building the Laundryless 25.5: Slab Complete Re: Seperate Toilet or not 6Apr 12, 2009 11:20 am Normally l'd vote for a seperate toilet everytime, but seeing you will be the sole occupant of your home, l'm picking the all in one option. Though l do think whenever you decide to sell that the lack of a bath will reduce the amount of potential buyers. Any chance of having a sticky beak at the rest of your floorplan? Re: Seperate Toilet or not 8Apr 12, 2009 11:32 am Hi ElephantGuy, Sorry to throw a cat amongst the pidgeons, but from your original post, you said your preference was a seperate toilet with it's own basin, but it wouldn't fit. If so, what about something like this? I'm not sure where the external wall is, but if it's the blank wall, you could have a to the floor window. This also gives you a nice big wall for a towel rail backing on to the shower. Edit: just saw the full floorplan. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/All20in20One20Bathroom.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Seperate Toilet or not 11Apr 12, 2009 11:46 am The option joles put up is good, gives you both the seperate toilet, and seperate basin. One thought would be to use a glass frameless shower screen along the shower instead of a wall. Will make the room feel much bigger. edit - will loose your towel hanging wall tho.. can you put those behind the door? edit # 2 - or just flip the entry to the shower so its at the window end.. then you still have your towel hanging space... (note to self.. i should think before clicking on submit..) -------------------------------------------------------- Building in Highlands Craigieburn Status: Building the Laundryless 25.5: Slab Complete Re: Seperate Toilet or not 12Apr 12, 2009 11:52 am I would leave it as in the all in one design but have an internal sliding door on the toilet. For guests you say, what if the first guest has an upset tummy then the second guest just wants to powder her nose immediately after the first guest visits the WC and don't forget the exhaust fan in that WC. Re: Seperate Toilet or not 16Apr 12, 2009 12:33 pm this is a guest loo I think you said, then def a separate loo. No one wants to be sitting on a guests loo and someone walks in just to wash their hands! def separate, and Joles has solved your problem! Annie A thankful person is a happy person. There is a handbasin in the top of the cistern which automatically drains into the cistern so that water is used for the next flush. Re: Seperate Toilet or not 18Apr 12, 2009 1:35 pm Separate toilet for me all the way - although our minor ensuites are all in ones (but no-one except the kids should need to use these anyway) but we also have two separate "powder rooms" with toilet / vanity / mirror. I think either Joles suggestions or the one above using the Caroma toilet with the integrated handbasin would be ideal. Some things are worth waiting for. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish. It's worth looking for search terms like SaveH2O… 2 7006 Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room. There is a hallway/entry that is never used, so was thinking this could be an option.
