Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2009 10:16 pm Hi there, I'm at the start of my building adventure. I'm currently hunting around for land in the south west (truganina, tarneit, deer park area). Once I've got that all sorted I'm hoping I can start the build asap. The house I'm selling in Canberra should be settling on Apr. 30th, so hopefully this will all fall into place. I'm currently looking at East West homes, particularly the Drysdale 26 house. Although depending on a quote for water tank & double glazing I maybe dropping to the drysdale 24 resort house. Has anyone on here used them?? Know of anyone? I've done a search on the net and I'm getting nothing except their webpage. The sales guy who I have been dealing with has been very nice to me and very helpful. As for EW homes, I considered them when we were looking around, I had heard good things from an associate of mine, including that they would change plans to suit etc. I think in the end I found their finish not as good as I wanted, and a touch pricey, but that's all subjective really - so certainly get a price from them and maybe check out another builder or two just to be sure you are happy with them! I certainly haven't heard bad things about them, but I'm sure someone has - that's the building industry! Annie A thankful person is a happy person. (like most builders) So make sure you include all you need in the quote. Also, their display home is closed for a week over easter... says something about their professionalism. Finding something in the size I want for the price I want is getting harder and harder I can't believe how much the land has gone up...I wonder if it will stablise if the FHOG doesn't get extended?? I hope it does! I got a price for the drysdale 26 and with everything including flyscreens it came in at $186k. I've found slightly cheaper ones out there, but once you add in flyscreens, remote garage, letterbox etc... most have come in around the same or over. But I do want a house with an excellent finish!!! IAnnie jessica Hi Eljay, We liked Drysdale too ... but the quote we got from them did not include a lot of other costs ... which we slowly discovered during further discussions Can you let me know what other stuff wasn't included?? I'm really knew at this so I could be missing something. I got the quote for $186 for the drysdale 26, including carpets, tiles, remote garage, fly screens, driveway, letterbox etc.. Does that sound about what you got Also, their display home is closed for a week over easter... says something about their professionalism. Really??? I was going to head over there, but I guess I won't. I'll go around on Monday and see if any others are open. What do they actually offer? I only ask this (and I don't need you to actually answer), because it depends on what you want. EG. If you want privacy locks on your loos (ok silly, but some people do want them) then does your builder offer this standard? If he doesn't and you don't want them - then that's fine. Also, do they include site costs, what's their start date (and finish times) like? Annie A thankful person is a happy person. I never even thought about privacy locks lol There you go!! I will have to add that in on my list and ask them when I talk to them next. Thanks for that! Also, do they include site costs, what's their start date (and finish times) like? Was told that the price included the site costs. He said they are getting the houses done within 20 weeks. Start date, I can't remember what he said, I'll have to ask again. Very helpful and easy to contact. They changed the layout exactly the way I wanted and the build has been very quick so far. Would not hesitate using them specially after the bad stories you hear with some of the larger builders. Re: East West Homes - Melbourne West 9Mar 14, 2010 8:46 pm Hi Homedream. The first time I built, before singing anything or handing over any money I asked him to give me details of 3 happy customers. He did and everything they had said was true. I was happy with the house and would have built with him again but I am not sure what possessed me not to the second time I built . Re: East West Homes - Melbourne West 10Mar 15, 2010 9:22 am Hi Niki, Thanks for your reply. This is my first home and I have visited few big builder and I decided to go with small builder.
