Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2009 6:00 pm Hi Team, I was thinking today about the finer points of handover/completion and while we are a long way off, I thought any feedback might be helpful for people at this stage. My curiousity is around the order of things when the house is complete and in your possession. We would like to have the fences and driveway in as soon as possible after moving in. At what point did people organise fencing? Can you do that while the house is still being built? Or do building companies have a problem with you doing that before handover? At what point did you organise your driveways? Did you get a quote during the building stage and then try and organise a time as soon after handover as possible to get this done? Also, the same sort of thoughts around window furnishings, did you wait until you moved in to organise this or were you allowed to meet a company rep at the home to get measure and quotes prior to handover. I'm really interested in how you did it/plan to do it. It might just help someone else formulate a plan We have a house in Doreen. Built the PD Kensington 24 (with Alfresco & Rumpus option). Fencing is being done by our estate developers. We just have to give them 8 weeks notice of intention to occupy, and they'll put the fences in. This will probably be fun to schedule, but the Site Supervisor and I have agreed to notify the developers once the builder is happy that he won't need major access to the side/back of the lot. 2. Driveway is being done by the builder, so they'll do that once the house is complete. We have quite a drop from the road to the garage (about 1.2m or so of fall along 6m from the end of the crossover to the start of the garage). Our builder included a coloured concrete driveway for a remarkably cheap price (I got a few 3rd party quotes and they were all more expensive). I reckoned the scheduling would be much easier! 3. Window furnishings is the only thing we haven't planned yet -- however, we're the only house being built in our street, so we'll have a few more months before we get peeping toms. Though, when the other lots do start building, we may get woken up by surprised tradies! I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
