Browse Forums Building A New House Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 2Apr 11, 2009 10:34 am Plan for sure. That's where you live. It has to work. Facades can be dressed up and made more appealing. A lot harder to do that with the flooplan. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 4Apr 11, 2009 10:39 am Well, I put both but I would choose a house on floor plan first ;original plans usually have some scope for modifications and most builders are open to modifications, we made a couple of minor ones to ours, including a structural change neccesary to fit it on the block. Most builders offer a range of facades anyway so once the floor plan is decided then you can choose the outside to suit your tastes. Most outside choices are purely cosmetic and only personal taste with the exception of some structural features which do impact on the inside - eaves, window positioning etc. Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 5Apr 11, 2009 10:40 am I agree with Joles the plan for me also Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 6Apr 11, 2009 10:48 am plan it is. no point in a beautiful look to the front of the house if the plan is unworkable. Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 7Apr 11, 2009 11:07 am Definitely the plan as that's where you spend your time 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Couldn't care less how it looks to everyone else on the outside, I don't stand out the front looking at it. Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 14Apr 11, 2009 5:16 pm Ok well I'll be the first to say that it's 50/50 if not leaning more towards facade then plan. Basically if my house wasn't available with the facade it has I wouldn't be building it. For me I can't wait to pull up into my driveway and see my house from the outside. I envisage the way it should look on the outside and how that will flow through to the inside. Suffice to say it's been very hard to find a project builder that does anything close to what I like in the facade department - I'm NOT very traditional at all. Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 15Apr 11, 2009 5:23 pm Oh, thank goodness BADH.........thought I was going to be the only one with that view I'm a visual person ie things have to appeal to me visually - looks, colour, form. I had to have a home I could look forward to coming home to. It absolutely HAD to look good TO ME from the outside - stuff what anyone else thinks. And of course the floorplan had to fit with our current lifestyle & be flexible enough to be changed for our future requirements. So definitley 50/50 Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 16Apr 11, 2009 5:29 pm I say both have equal immportance as i don't see the point in building a house that suits you but then pulling up everyday not liking what you see! I founf a house i absolutely loved but i hated all the facades that went with it so i kept looking and have found a plan that is almost the same one or two minor changes that are slightly on the negative side but in the end i have a house that i will still absolutely love and will be happy pulling up and looking at it everyday! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! If it came down to it the plan would be more important for sure, but we did change from one floor plan/builder that we liked to another one because I thought the street scape was too plain and boring on the first house so I guess that made it a both for me. Kim Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 18Apr 11, 2009 7:34 pm We found it really difficult to find a house with a plan that we loved and also loved the facade as well. I think that most people would go for the plan and do the best they can with any possible changes to the facade. I am not in love with our facade but the plan suits us well. I am actually a little scared that I won't like it when it's built...the facade that is... www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 19Apr 11, 2009 7:45 pm Wow, I guess we have a clear winner!! This isn't as clear cut as it seems for us though, as we fell in love with our facade... and that was the only thing we kept exactly the same as our builders standard plan! ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: What is more important to you when choosing your house plan 20Apr 11, 2009 9:29 pm plan I think is more important, but we also had to have a facade we liked the look of. We worked on geting the plan right and then changed the facade to what we liked! The worst thing you can do is sign a building contract without a pre contract review.
