Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2009 6:48 pm Hi guys Trying to finalise our bathroom fittings/selections for the plumber and had originally planned to go with in-wall cisterns and wall hung pans in the WCs, but when trying to decide on specific fixtures, came across a new 'mainsflush' system, being promoted by Reece. Basically, there is no cistern and each toilet is connected directly to the mains, with just a single valve installed to control the water flow. It works off the mains pressure and operates with electronic buttons/sensors that switch the valve on or off. It seems like a really good idea and from what i know, has been used a fair bit in commercial applications, but i havent come across much where it's been used in homes! I guess I see it as a similar idea to continuous hot water systems, where you just access the mains directly? Anyway, i'd really appreciate any thoughts or experiences!! Thanks heaps, Adam Re: Has anyone installed a 'mains flush' system?! 3Apr 06, 2009 8:39 am anthea ....or you can get it hooked up to you water tank and use that water to flush the toilets? Do they say how much water they use? anthea Yep, we'll have a 10,000 litre tank, so intend to use that as much as possible...but as far as I know, we'd still need to have a mains connection as well for flushing the toilets...just thinking that this way we can do away with the need for any cisterns! They do half and full flush and i think it's a 6/3L setup... Hopefully someone has come across them in residential use and can give us an idea of whether they're effective/efficient or not! Re: Has anyone installed a 'mains flush' system?! 4Apr 06, 2009 1:20 pm Hi Building, I used to work for Reece and I can honestly say (no spruiking I promise) that they are a pretty good system. The flushing ability is no different to an in wall system, but the buttons are so unique in the way you only have this little plate, rather than the big access plate you need for the other cistern. You can even have the buttons painted onto your tile, so there is no metal plate at all. Prob the one issue is that they used to be quite noisy when they first came out, but I'm pretty sure they fixed that issue. Maybe just check that out and decide from there. Thanks for the comments based on first hand experience Lostris! It does seem like a clever and logical way to do things, but it's hard to judge when there aren't that many people who are familiar with it! Lostris The flushing ability is no different to an in wall system, but the buttons are so unique in the way you only have this little plate, rather than the big access plate you need for the other cistern. I did read something along those lines and it does seem pretty impressive, hopefully my plumber has had some experience with these systems and can give me some expert advice! Lostris Prob the one issue is that they used to be quite noisy when they first came out, but I'm pretty sure they fixed that issue. Maybe just check that out and decide from there. From what I've "read", this particular system claims to be much quieter than when using a cistern and no 'filling-up' noises, so maybe they fixed that problem! Anyway, plumber should be starting work fairly soon as part of the pre-slab preparation, so i'll let u know how i go!! Cheers Adam Re: Has anyone installed a 'mains flush' system?! 6Apr 07, 2009 4:05 am Those kind of toilets are in use in a lot of places here in North America - though not with half/full flush - it's all just full flush. Not sure about the Reece ones, but with the ones here, the bowl essentially becomes the cistern. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Has anyone installed a 'mains flush' system?! 7Oct 14, 2019 3:52 pm I know this question is 10 years old, but nothing ventured nothing gained.. did you ever install a mains flush system and if so are you happy with it? Issues? The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 16120 if it's the look that you're not happy with, the easiest option would probably be to spray paint it all into the same color as the walls so it blends in. there might not… 3 4321 Okay, then the choice is really about the build quality of the door itself which means the brand name. Sorry I can't recommend one or the other so best to rely on comments… 5 3552 |
