Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2009 5:46 pm After a lot of whining to DW about how our media room (Living Room) needs to be enclosed she's given up and given me the go ahead to enclose it. It needs to be enclosed so that I can use my surround when watching movies, and keep kids out if im watching something that might frighten them etc Below are pics of the bi-fold doors im thinking about running on the media room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The rest of the house will have these doors Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Below noted in red is where the doors will be, to give you an idea of how the room sits with the rest of the house, the bi-folds will be open most of the time so need to look ok Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Do you think this will work, any other solutions i could use, I would prefer to not have doors but dont think a curtain on the inside of the room would look any good or do much of a job. Re: Sanity check my media room doors 2Apr 05, 2009 5:55 pm Yes I think it works - we have done exactly this, have same bifolds (just different glass inserts) enclosing our lounge room and exactly same doors as you on the other rooms, once they are painted the same colour they look fine together. Our lounge is off the front hallway and we have matching glass insert on the front door. PS: in your plan I would do matching bifolds on the study door. I'll be running clear glass in them if I go this way Helyn, glad the idea seems to make some sense, id love some of the RIM doors, or french doors they are also called, but with them open they will stick out too far which ever way we run them Is there such a thing as a full glass internal bi-fold door, with just a timber strip around the outside like external type doors? Re: Sanity check my media room doors 5Apr 05, 2009 8:29 pm If it's for a home theatre room, you may also want to consider some kind of blind of blockout material to put over the glass in case you are in there watching something and the light from the adjoining room becomes an issue - even if it's just a roll of material (velveteen or something) that you stick up when needed 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: Sanity check my media room doors 8Apr 05, 2009 9:02 pm billdsl good point, i do have to turn off the lights in the room we currently have, i might run an obscure glass instead of clear That will still let light in although a bit more diffused... just be aware you may want to block it out in future I like the doors as it will make the other room look bigger and in the future if the kids want to watch something in there you can still peak in through the glass to keep an eye on them 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' But if it didnt have glass it would lose some of its sound insulation ability Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Re: Sanity check my media room doors 12Apr 05, 2009 10:28 pm I would have some sort of obscure glass; if you have clear glass, kids can see thru to the Tv shows/movies that you said in yor earlier post you didn't want them watching We also occasionally use our lounge as an overnight room, for example when my family stayed the weekend, DS got relegated to sleeping on the couch, and clear glass would have no privacy for this.
