Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2009 3:10 am My builder is trying to push us away from the dry pressed bricks saying that they chip easily and that the look won't be very good. I am very interested to see if anyone has had any experience building with these and can say whether they are problematic or what precautions are needed. Thanks Dan C Re: Has anyone had experience with Bowral Dry Pressed bricks 2Apr 04, 2009 8:46 am Hi Dan, Love love love those bricks. We looked into having them but the price was out of the budget. We were told that they are a lot harder to lay, they are heavier, and a lot more labour intensive. Perhaps that's the reason? As for the look not being good? Huh??? Don't know where the builder gets that idea, they are stunning! Have you seen them on any houses in your area? Which color are you thinking? I have a house in Gertrudis Brown, and another in the Blue near me. Let me know if you want a picture. At the time we were looking at them, Austral also gave us a list of built houses. Might be worth a shot. Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Has anyone had experience with Bowral Dry Pressed bricks 3Apr 05, 2009 4:44 pm Thanks for the positive words Bel. We are looking at the murray greys. My wife has been the major force behind these. Actually she wanted the Bowral Blue But I was very concerned that the colour would be too much so we settled on Murray Grey. What the builder is talking about is the edge of the brick and that this has a tendency to crumble and so loses the fineness of the original brick. I have not looked that close to any samples or built walls to see if this is in fact teh case. I guess since I haven't noticed it, even if it is true, it's obviously not that bad. If you area ble to get up close photos that show typical grout and brick edge taht would be great. Again thanks Dan and Sandi Re: Has anyone had experience with Bowral Dry Pressed bricks 4Apr 06, 2009 5:56 pm No probs, leave it with me. The house with the gertrudis brown has the front fence made of the same bricks. Easy to get a photo! Stay tuned...... Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Has anyone had experience with Bowral Dry Pressed bricks 8Apr 17, 2009 8:47 pm Bel Thank you for this, apprecaite all the trouble you have gone to. Since teh last post, the builder has shown me what ihe is concerned about. The dry pressed bricks have s soft edge and as such during construction it is hard to get an unmarked brick. To demonstrate he picked up two bricks and as a bricky does they hit together and the edges crumble away. So either a brickie takes more time and greater care od tehy will end up looking a little tatty. from a distance probably no problem. Our main contender now is the PGH Bricks haberfield. She has had no problems whatsoever with chipping. They have a wonderful noise insulating effect too. Regards, Pix. Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney.
