So I found out today that one of our neighbours objected - AT LENGTH - to our DA. It wasn't a huge surprise (they even objected to our demolition DA) but at the same time I was totally shocked at the extent they went to.
Worse thing is though... they were over at our place on Sunday (the day before they sent their objection letter to council) and we went out of our way to show them everything (not just what council sent them). We showed them our floor plan, shadow diagrams, landscape plans. We even put up more privacy screening the very next day as they are the type of people who seem to want to live in a fortress and yet live on a sloping street where we are higher than them. Though funny thing is they back onto a drainage reserve which is open council space and have no back fence....go figure.
Anyway so it's not so much that they complained. I expected that. But the fact that we gave them so much more information that what they were "entitled" to and we reassured them of their privacy and they used it against us. They requested every single window on their boundary obscured - this includes a 3 panel sliding stacker that is 4 metres away from the fence and has the privacy screen on the fence up nearly 2 metres high. And my kids bedroom windows 4 metres away from the fence on a second storey. What kid doesn't like looking out there bedroom window?? And we've got such a nice view of bushland too.
So as I'm pulling the knife out of my back I just felt the need to vent and let off a bit of steam
I guess I know they have the right to object but after we were so nice to them.... never again. Fingers crossed the assessor will think they are as irrational and unreasonable as we do and disregard it. Otherwise we are in for one very very long DA process. There goes our tender!!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH
Thanks for listening...
