Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 02, 2009 7:09 pm That is my question for you all... I have just recieved a variation back from the builder to turn one of our broom cupboards into a powder room. It will be just a toilet, no vaniety or mirror, just a toilet and they want to charge us $2320.00, do you think this sounds right or too much? Would you do it? In total we would have 3 toilets but the main reason for wanting the extra is where the girls (my daughters) bedrooms are, there is no toilet close by and both my daughters get up in the night for the loo, and I didn't want them walking around the house in the dark, nor coming into our ensuite. What do you think? Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: To do or not to do??? 2Apr 02, 2009 7:13 pm I would in a heartbeat as long as you have enough storage elsewhere in the home. But I would also include a small handbasin - or look at one of the toilets that has the integrated hand basin in the top (water from the basin goes straight into the cistern ready for the next flush. Clever water saving little device!!) Some things are worth waiting for. Re: To do or not to do??? 3Apr 02, 2009 7:14 pm I'd do it. Can't be done later and an extra toilet is always a bonus. How far to go to wash hands though? Any way you can squeeze in a tiny wall mounted basin? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Thanks! Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Thanks! If there is a bathroom across the hall why are you adding another toilet? Wouldn't your girls have to walk the same distance? Or am I confused?? Re: To do or not to do??? 6Apr 02, 2009 7:43 pm I'd do it too. I seriously thought about adding a powder room, but decided that it wasn't worth losing laundry or storage space, let alone the extra cost. I'm regretting it....having a "no boys allowed" toilet is something I've always wanted. At least I could be sure it would always be in a fit state for guests to use. Re: To do or not to do??? 8Apr 02, 2009 10:02 pm I would too! I totally agree with Kyton's comments and I think Kek's idea is sensational - no boys - love it! And yes regarding basin ... have you thought about a toilet suite with integrated basin. Re: To do or not to do??? 11Apr 03, 2009 7:56 am It does look expensive, see if you can neigotate with the builder but i would definitely do it, rather than worry about my daughter walking in the dark every night, and worry they may fall or get injuried accidently, just for a peach of mind Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: To do or not to do??? 12Apr 03, 2009 1:05 pm buildingadreamhome pinkfairymagic They have already stated that there is NO room to add a small hand basin and the bathroom is directly across the hallway so not far to wash hands. The have the bathroom directly opposite the "new" powder room, but it DOES NOT have a toilet in it. Kek, yes it will be like the boys will have their own toilet, the girls will have their own also and then we have the ensuite. All done, have decided to go ahead with it, signed the variation and sent it back this morning, thanks for the help. Not to sure about the intergrated loo system though Thanks again. ETA: Yes there is PLENTY of storage space. Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss!
