Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 2Mar 31, 2009 12:00 pm No, it is not.. My builder didn't lock the door a few times (although they didn't leave the key in the door), but then i have got a few things stolen from my house Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 3Mar 31, 2009 12:19 pm smallOne Last Friday, my builder left my front door wide open and the keys on the door. My neighbour happened to walk past and lock up the door for me, keeping the keys. Is this a common practise among builders? Oh yes it is..... Our house was rarely locked up. Same goes for all the houses on the estate, no matter who the builder was. I used to come over most nights, have a walk around inside and then lock up when I left... good thing we lived close by. Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 4Mar 31, 2009 12:43 pm WOW didn't know that was common! how annoying! i built with $imonds and they always locked up, l use to leave a window unlock to get in on weekends always locked by the time l got to the weekend! Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 6Mar 31, 2009 1:12 pm Most builders are pretty bad about it. EG, our builder is still building the display version of our house (which is fantastic, they build it standard and we see it before they can make it look good, EG we first saw it with plaster up and not much else). But we wanted to look through it and the sales rep didnt have the key and the front was locked, but the side door was unlocked. And this was right next to their sales office. Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 8Apr 02, 2009 6:32 am It has more to do with the individual tradies - the site supervisor isn't likely to be there every day. Basically it comes down to the fact that most tradies just don't care.....evidenced by the way they treat the building site as a rubbish tip, and the absence of care for other people's property or work already done. Not to mention the poor standard of work most of them think is acceptable. I'd love to see their faces if we came around and treated THEIR houses the way they treat ours. Oh, and I'd be starting up the noise at 5:30am just to make their neighbours happy too. Bit of a pet peeve of mine, especially living next door to a building site and with more behind us.... Speak to your SS anyway, maybe he can get some of the slack so-and-sos to lock up after themselves. Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 9Apr 02, 2009 10:38 am Don't worry if the leave it locked or ulocked, its their property until hand over and their responsibility! The blessing is that while its open, you can get in there and take heaps of photos, to keep an eye on what they are doing. Usually the house is locked up after the kitchen is installed, because there is then something worth stealing and most kitchen installers demand it. It is actually an OH&S issue if the house is not locked, and anyone who enters and hurts thyemselves can sue the builder. But builders give all contractors a master key and they just forgeth frequently to shut it up. Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 10Apr 07, 2009 8:30 pm Not sure if the supervisor is now feeling "guilty" or because the house is nearly finished with the tiles all in and cleaned up. THe house is almost locked up everytime! Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 13Apr 09, 2009 9:43 pm gee one of our builders issues defect notices to trades that don't lock up & after 3 notices you get called into head office to explain & possible termination of contract. Re: Does your builder leave your door open during fixing stage? 14Apr 09, 2009 9:53 pm But how does the builder know the house has been left unlocked, short if checking it each day ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Thanks for much mate. I see that you do cabinets before flooring. For timber flooring, for most parts it's fine because it's got base plates, and for door jabs you can… 7 11569 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9568 Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance! The good thing is that you know know. 3 4872 |
