Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 30, 2009 3:19 pm Hey guys... it seems this process which is meant to be fairly simple is getting complicated... can some one walk me through the costs of connecting a new phone line? here's what i think happens.... 1. Need to organise contractor to dig my front yard and put a cable from the house to edge of my property. Apparently it has to be 450mm deep and a P20 or P50 Conduit. 2. Next you need to call the Telstra approved contractor to connect a cable from your house to the pit 3. Telstra sends you the bill for a new connection of $299 plus what ever it has to pay the contractor. Is that right? is there a fundamentally flawed process here? its step 2 that kills me...they won't tell u how much step 2 will cost upfront and the only time you'll know is when Telstra bills you....most people don't do step 1 either, i was advised by the contractor to say if u do it yourself it will be much cheaper. Anyhow, the only outcome i want is to connect my phone so how does it work? can someone help? thanks smeags ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Process for connecting a new phone/cable/foxtel 2Mar 30, 2009 3:33 pm i think i answered my own question... i hope this helps someone... http://www.telstra.com.au/movinghome/do ... w_home.pdf ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Process for connecting a new phone/cable/foxtel 3Mar 30, 2009 7:04 pm Our builder did everything for us - thank goodness. Trenching and cabling were included in our contract, so we just dealt with Telstra over the phone. They only had to send a guy out to do something mysterious that took about 30 seconds, switch us on at the exchange, and then added $299 to our next phone bill. Totally worth it, I'm sure. That's bad enough, isn't it? kek They only had to send a guy out to do something mysterious that took about 30 seconds, switch us on at the exchange, and then added $299 to our next phone bill. Took him 30 seconds, but still managed to rock up 3 days late I bet? On a more serious note, you're probably best to contact your builder in regards to the process. I'm sure they'll be able to fill in the gaps. Kind regards, Big Red!
