Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Pulling out just before contract signing 2Mar 30, 2009 8:31 am I did. Eight months and they still couldn't get the drawings right. We were given construction drawings that were wrong. We should have been ready to go as soon as the land settled (12th August) instead we were still mucking around in October because they couldn't draw the plans correctly. That was enough for me. Are we further behind??.... absolutely. But I refuse to reward incompetency by continuing to give them my business. There's a pretty simple reason why the whole industry operates in the farcical way it does, and that's because we the consumers, let it. We continue along the path with these builders when we are fed spoonful after spoonful of cow manure. If everyone wasn't so scared to walk away when they treated us like crap, they would lift their standards. Why would they bother to lift their standards now?? It doesn't cost them anything to be mediocre... people still suck it up. Sorry for the rant, but the sooner that consumers accept that a big part of reason they get mediocre service is because they accept it, the better off everyone will be. Edit: we actually pulled out after signing the contract. But they did release us from it as they had made so many mistakes. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. There was no way I was going to suck it up when I'm handing over $400K+. I hope the next builder we approach don't make the same mistakes. Even though it put us months behind, I honestly felt better for walking away. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Pulling out just before contract signing 7Mar 30, 2009 10:52 am We will be if our builder doesn't start to play ball. They have been trying their luck on a few things and I'm not having a bar of it. They rushed us through tender to try get us to contracts early and therefor get more money out of us, and as a result have made so many mistakes with the documentation. They have made a few mistakes that will potentially cost them money, and have been trying to blame us for them. I'm like sorry mate, you made the mistake becuase you rushed, why should I pay for it when you have signed the tender agreeing to everything. If I tried to change something to save some money now you would charge me a variation fee. They have to realise that I am running this show, not them. They need me as a client, I can go to a different builder if I'm not happy and get the same thing. I think they have finally realised that they can't bully me, and are now sucking up a lot more. I think the same as Jules though, they keep getting away with this because we let them. There is no way I will put up with it, even if it sets us back and we don't get the extra FHOG Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! Our stuff so far viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16532 Re: Pulling out just before contract signing 8Mar 30, 2009 11:08 am I had given our first builder the flick after constant stuff ups (wrong house, incorrect changes, too many issues to list), terrible customer service (lowest point was being told to ring back another time as we weren't as important as other customers who were building sooner than us!) and price rises that were just not reasonable (it was like dealing with a lawyer - every time we spoke/met with them our price jumped $5k!!!). So basically, I agree with everything Jo wrote, they get you to a point where you are so emotionally involved in the house you just suck it up and put up with it. We are giving a company a $200k + project to work on, they need to treat us with some respect. We are so excited about our build now, were are spending the same amount that we were going to yet have a much larger, custom designed house where our builder actually cares about their product going out there so much they have made so many changes to our house for no extra cost because it will look better. Sure, it created more stress and we didn't really want to start over, but I have completely no regrets about it and every time we talk about our house - we are so positive and our house has a great feeling about it now, built with love and all that c*** so its now an enjoyable experience. ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Unless there is something in special conditions the builder does not have to give you timeline.
