I am interested in understand from other members what experience they are having with their builders and our rights in the MBA contract when it comes to variations and builders margin?
- * For any variation (either requested by us or imposed due to out of scope of contract), do I have the right to review all quotations and associating costs before accepting/rejecting? So far builder has been emailing costs to me and I have had to ask for copies quotes, they have reluctantly agreed in some cases but not all
- * What is the typical builders margin and can it be negotiated? There is no mention of what the builders margin in my MBA contract? So far builder has put 20%
- * Should I have a Quantity Surveyor review all variations before accepting?
After 16 months of building (so far) l have a relative level of trust with the builder and negotiated a few variations, however I feel I have been ripped off on a few items.
