Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 26, 2009 10:11 am Hi All - I have been (ashamedly) following everything in the background for a few months now... maybe I am a little shy... It has been great reading everyones experiences and comments, especially now that our house is underway. The whole process so far has been pretty good... We chose our house and land back in December, did our colour selections and signed building contracts in January, and settled the land in February. Building commenced 2 weeks ago, slab is down and frame is on its way up! It's only been 4 months since we walked into the display home and it's full steam ahead... almost unnerving really! I noticed there are a few people building the same PD house as us (Regent23) and even colour ideas are similar! I love the open living space of the Regent23 and we chose lots of options/upgrades to make it even more open and "airy", we also stuck to all earthy colours for carpet, tiles and cabinets...I think we mimicked one of the display homes! Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself... and promise that I will try and make an effort to get in there and contribute when I can! We are building in stage 17. First house to start in the stage. A few more houses starting to pop up now, although looks like we will be first finished. The Mernda one is the only one I've been through Well, we spent a fair bit on upgrades... We took basically all the options that were in the display home. Then during the colour / electrical / tile selections we sort of went a little crazy again... in the end we added about 25% to the base price in upgrades. I seems like a lot, but at least what we will end up with is exactly what we would want our house to be... And we still stuck to budget Building with PD - Regent 23 in Point Cook WE'RE IN!!! Landscaping! Re: Building the PD Regent23 in Point Cook 11Mar 31, 2009 7:40 pm So drove by the house last night, and the frame is about 3/4 up! I am guessing stage should be finished by the end of this week... That's vacant lot to frame in 3 weeks... is that good or what? Was also happy to meet our neighbours! Yes, my fears of being the only house within 4 blocks have been put to rest... While checking out the naughty pictures that some kids had drawn into the dust on our windows... (artistic I must say! ), some people arrived to visit the block next door! Lovely people - mum, dad, and three daughters. Really nice and lovely to talk to... So glad to have nice people building right next door.. and if that wasn't enough... they are building a single storey house of similar proportions to ours! That meant my other fear was also put to rest... the potential for a 40sq double storey being built next door to my little castle... and blocking the sun on my alfresco and outdoor zones! So I am pretty happy... everything is going up just fine, lovely neighbours, I will get to keep my sunlight, and for the first time... I am finally getting excited! Took me long enough, but I guess I am always expecting the worst, so I try not to get too carried away... but after seeing the frame work and it all starting to actually look like a house, it's finally hit home Well anyway, I'm sitting back with a glass (or two) of Margaret River Cab Sauv and just wanted to share my glowy moment... When we were choosing our lot, we actually went as far as asking the developer to find out what kind of house the neighbours were building... but they hadn't decided at the time... I don't think it would hurt to ask your developer, too?? JellyLegs Hi Beejay, Welcome to the forum.
