Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Westminster Homes 661Feb 21, 2012 9:50 am Hi 4 corners: We are victims. Despite our experience with Westminster being horrific, our experience with The Home Warranty Insurance company was worse. After Westminster went into liquidation, The Home Warranty Insurance company had a meeting with us in which they stated that they will appoint a builder to each customer of Westminster to complete the construction of our homes. We pointed out that according to their insurance policy, they should give us 20% of the contract price, however, those who are like us and only have the slab poured, 20% is not enough to complete the construction. They said that that's not a problem if we stay with the insurance as they will obtain the builder to complete building out home. They also said that if we want to make this process quicker, we should obtain quotes from two builders our selves in regards to completing our home. Therefore, the final agreement between us and the home warranty insurance was that we will obtain quotes from independant builders ourselves. If the quotes we obtain are better than the ones they obtain, they will appoint the builders we chose. After much hard work and a very long time, due to it being extremely difficult to find a builder willing to continue the construction on an existing slab, we found two builders that agreed to do so and we sent these quotes to the insurance company. Two months later, the insurance company called us to ask whether we would take the 20% money or wait untill 3 months time elapses to obtain a builder, with note that according to their policy, 90 days is the maximum amount of time they will take to solve our problem. Because we require more than 20% to finish completing the construction of our home, we decided to stay with the insurance company in hope that they will find us a builder. Despite 3 months (90 days elapsing) we received no notification telling us about their decision to appoint a builder. After a shortwhile, we called them asking about this. They told us that to get a builder, we have to wait at least 3 months. In this case, I decided to take the 20% money as it has been more than one year since we began with Westminster and there was no hope of a builder being appointed. We have to add more tan $30 000 on top to finish our home. All of this was not necessary. If they didn't want to give us a builder, they could've just told us so we would have saved time and effort. This is the worst experience I've ever been through. Re: Westminster Homes 662Feb 24, 2012 12:22 pm Hi there! I understood that if your house costed 300 k with westminster and the new builder charge you 360 k , they would pay the diference, in this case 20% is 60 k. , so you would pay 300 k and the insurance 60k. The promise day date now is the 2nd. of March, after giving them the extra time they requested. I really hope that they stick to their word this time!!!!! Conmuter Re: Westminster Homes 663Mar 08, 2012 10:36 am Hey all, How is everyone's houses going. So the 2nd of March came and has gone Apparently there are still quotes to come through. Is everyone else in the same boat as me. Dam i want this house soo bad we have waited oh to long !!! Re: Westminster Homes 664Mar 15, 2012 6:47 am Hi there! Finally I was given the news I was waiting for: Wincrest Homes rang me to let me know that they will take over the construction of my house. QBE said that if you stay with THEIR builders they give you 40% , but if you choose to go with your OWN builder they give you only 20%. I wish they have said that earlier, that would have save me and other sufferers a lot of time , trying to get quotes, that at the end were not taken into consideration. Good luck to everybody!!!! It's so nerve wrecking T, we have so much to organise, tiling, carpeting, landscaping, security on the windows, a few items of furniture we need to buy as well . Whilst we've been dreaming of this to happen, it's also so scary at the same time so hopefully we're trying to move in before or at Easter time. Saw your frame pics, looking good T, & the weather this week has been glorious, ideal build weather....so what's next on your list? Re: Westminster Homes 669Mar 16, 2012 10:47 am Hey springtime... I have been watching this thread, but just felt so bad for everyone ... and grateful that we came so close but didn't end up signing with Westminster (thanks to this forum!). We are at the exciting frame stage (more on my thread so that I don't hijack this one). So exciting that you are VERY close to moving in. Must feel surreal. So how long has it been since you signed with Westminster? 20 months now? Re: Westminster Homes 671Mar 16, 2012 4:03 pm Hi everyone, Just a quick note to let you all know that we moved into our house last week after getting paid out by QBE and finding our own builder. They did a great job and we love our new home. It was such a journey getting here but it is now time to put it all behind us and start moving forward. We are glad to hear that most people are now moving forward as well and we hope that you are all in your new homes soon. Re: Westminster Homes 673Mar 18, 2012 9:30 pm Thankyou Carmel.
