I read somewhere on the forum about SICorp waiving the 20% cap for the Westminster customers that were affected. Is that correct? I also heard from a builder that this was fact??? Can anyone clarify? If this is the case, is there a possibility of that happening for other people affected by the Cosmopolitan collapse? Re: Westminster Homes 655Jan 27, 2012 1:41 pm springtime I agree with Gforce, Don't just sit back & hope for the best, take charge of things. Get as many quotes as you can, & put in your claim with the insurance, whether it's Vero, QBE, or Lumley. Whilst it took us about 10 weeks to settle our claim, at least we now know where we stand & are not waiting for the insurance to find a builder . Hi Springtime ! I have tried to get quotes from 9 builders, and only one of them is keen "to have a look', as they say that what usually happens is that they waste their time checking every thing and then give the quotes, only for the insurance company to give all the houses to one builder that they have came to an agreement with . Do you know of anybody that have received the letter from QBE asking for extra time to asses the claim? Cheers. Re: Westminster Homes 656Feb 01, 2012 12:31 pm The only builder that was keen to give me a quote, got in contact with QBE ,wanting to make sure everything was ok before he hand me the quote, only for QBE to sugest to him that his quotation would have near no chance, because they wanted a big builder to do everything!!!!! so much for encouraging people to get 2 o more quotes to speed up things !!!! Anybody knows what the hell is going on? I dont. Conmuter Re: Westminster Homes 657Feb 01, 2012 1:00 pm Conmuter, You have every right to get two quotes & send them in to QBE, it even says so on their website! Don't let them discourage you, send in the quotes, & tell them you want to finish the house yourself, one word of advice, if the builder says you need repairs, you have the right to get your 20% as well as claiming upto $300K in repairs, there is nothing to lose by sending in the quotes . Re: Westminster Homes 659Feb 08, 2012 2:55 pm Did anyone else here lose out on the homebuilders grants due to the delays caused by Westminster? We missed out on the $21,000 new home builder and NSW boost grants because they didn't complete our build within 12 months of the contract signing. We terminated westminster a month or 2 before they went under because we werent willing to wait around for them and had strong suspicions they were in deep trouble. Now, we have a new builder but even the new home builder grant has changed and is now subject to a final house valuation cap. I would be interested to hear if anyone else lost out and would like to rally together to contact the office of state revenue for assistance in this matter due to exceptional circumstances... Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Westminster Homes 660Feb 20, 2012 10:07 pm Hi All! It is now just over 3 months on from the collapse of Westminster Homes. Given that the insurer (or its agent) has 90 days to settle claims and I have read several posts indicating that letters have been sent requesting (read "demanding") additional time to process the claim, I would assume that many claims are now past or very close to the 90 day mark... I am wondering... 1. Other than the "Loss of Deposit" insurance claims, whether any "Incomplete" insurance claims have been settled by QBE/SICorp? 2. Whether insurance settlement offers have been satisfactory to cover "losses"? 3. Whether tenders submitted by builders who are on the insurers' panel of preferred builders have been consistent (competitive) with tenders obtained independently by home owners? 4. Whether any "incomplete" projects have re-commenced construction? 5. Whether anyone considers that they have had a "good" experience with SICorp/Vero/QBE etc? Despite all the "promises" made by NSW Treasury (representing SICorp), one gets the feeling that the answer to most of the above questions is negative... Your answers/responses would be greatly appreciated... I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
