Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - Opinions needed 81Aug 02, 2009 10:36 pm I too second the extra storage. You can never have too much storage place It would however, boil down to the cost as well. Do tell us Abbey... Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - Opinions needed 82Aug 08, 2009 2:36 pm Abbey I did not realize you had added so much more to your thread, sorry for not keeping up with it. Frame looks Ok, I think you have a double top plate on the outside. 2 x 35mm. All looks good, funny to see what mine will look like. I think you have shorter windows, are they 850mm high. As to the extra storage, well, for me I would say no. Go back to the display, take a tape, and see how much it will eat into your meals area. If you go with it use sliding doors. As hinge doors will open out and use more space. The jut out is 600mm. I personally feel the meals, living is a bit short its 8m. Don’t forget a dinning table, room to move each side and then the family area furniture. I know storage is important more so If you have a growing family. I would also get the cost in writing before I said OK to it. The bricks will differ from batch to batch but should be similar to the sample. I would love to see more pix, asap. Hope you go over this week end with you camera. Cheers KW........... “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - Opinions needed 83Aug 08, 2009 2:58 pm Hi there, I love your colours and think the extra storage is worth it, wish I had done the same. Would love to see some more photos when your gutters etc are done as mine are the same colours. With your site costs and 30 piers what was the amount of site costs on your contract. We had 33 piers and a large retaiing wall total $40000? I only have a slab for now. I went for a grey nurse splashback and love the colour you have chosen. The people next door to us are building with NBG but I believe are delayed. Harribeka http://www.harribeka.blogspot.com Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - Opinions needed 84Aug 08, 2009 10:10 pm blessedpeople & thorney: thank you for your inputs about the storage, i only have the one son atm who's 2 and i can't believe how much stuff he already has that needs some place to store it! still thinking about it, and waiting for the quote back from the builder KW: Yeah our windows are shorter than yours, i forgot what ours measure out to exactly, i wish they were a bit longer actually. As for the storage idea, the space in the living/dining area is really the only thing which is making us unsure as to whether to go ahead with it or not. We did request from him to make them sliding doors if possible, but in the end i'd want a solution which will not make them stand out or draw attention to them at all. We'll see, im still waiting for a quote back from him to give the final ok for it. As for bricks, i love them now, once they were put up they did look different, its still hard to see what they will look like in the end until they clean them. I do have some concerns though. When i went passed today i noticed a few chipped bricks, nothing too obvious, there were about 4 altogether around the whole house, and im not sure whether its worth mentioning to the builder or not. I've got some pics of them on my other camera which i will post up tomorrow. harribeka: thank you, i will definitely post more photos up. The gutters are sitting inside the house at the moment with mud all over them, but i love the colours i can't wait for them to go up. Its been a while since i had a look at the site costs, if i remember correctly they added up to about $20,000. i will double check tomorrow. Will definitely look at your blog and follow your progress Some pics, will add more tomorrow: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 88Aug 16, 2009 7:05 pm Love the brick colour abbey_aj Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 89Aug 16, 2009 8:42 pm Looking great Abbey ! I like the dark colour of our bricks Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 90Aug 17, 2009 8:58 am Nice choice of brick, hope it is all progressing well for you and also your parents Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 91Aug 29, 2009 6:59 pm Thank you all for your replies. I haven't had much time to sit and update the thread with progress and pics or catch up on the progress of some houses im following but im hoping ill get some time over the next couple of days. I am loving my bricks now! the roof has been finished and loving the colour as well, as i said before will try to get some pics up soon. Went past the house today and noticed that the electrician must have been there marking all the light positions and powerpoint placements. While i was looking around i discovered that some of the slab in the middle of my kitchen has gone missing! its an area about 1m long, 10cm wide and 2 cm deep thats missing, is that normal? i have no idea what that could be there for. Will take a pic of it tomorrow. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 93Aug 29, 2009 7:45 pm Thanks for the photos, really looking nice, I am maybe 2 weeks behind you. Re: Building the NBG Ellington 25E - brickwork almost complete 95Aug 29, 2009 8:58 pm harribeka: thanks , had a look at your blog, your house is coming along nicely, it looks really nice at the front, you'll catch up to me easily, they've been moving along pretty slow at my place, they've ran out of bricks twice which has been the cause of most of the delays. Nothing has been happening at my parents place unfortunately for the past couple of weeks, the carpenter is due to be coming end of this week to start the fix out stage, so we'll see what happens.
